Something managed to get in and fester. Usually an infection shows up pretty quickly, but like the first answer said, they can take time on occasion.

Possibly the wound got dirty and wasn't properly cleaned. My wife had surgery and 2 weeks later was blown up with infection. They had to open her wound and leave it open to drain. Took 6 more weeks to heal. Occasionally she still gets very minor bleeding from the wound site, but she keeps things clean, and that helps.

Follow your doctors prescription and be faithful to take the meds. They need to be taken to the completion, otherwise the infection can return WITH resistance to treatment.

I had West Nile Virus, and they gave me the strongest anti-biotic possible. I don't know if AB's work on virus or not, but boy was I sick. Almost died. Glad I didn't.

Take care of yourself. Always.

you might have had the infection for a few weeks but did not know it. it might have finally set in and now your body can't fight it any more with out the aid of antibiotics.

because just now the bacteria have invaded and started multiplying.

Infections while common at breaks in the skin surface can happen any time there are bacteria present, and on humans thats... well 100% of the time.

depends where the surgery was on your body but, infection occurs if wasn't cleaned properly or left un-cared for in a few days.
