Drug allergies are fairly common, and though they can present a serious problem if exposure is not treated, they don't need to be a source of stress. Allergic reactions are basically a "hypersensitivity" of the immune system and immune cells (white blood cells) release all kinds of chemicals that cause the reaction. The best treatment is prevention; if you're having dental work make sure the dentist knows. There are alternative medicines that will not cross-react. If you're exposed, Benadryl is a good first choice medicine to counteract allergies. Good luck!

What kind of reaction? Because I found out that my dentist was using Nocacaine with some sort of Epinephrine Chaser. It really screwed me up. Make sure nothing else was added to your numbing shot.
