From what I've read digital cameras frequently capture "orbs" which would seem to indicate they're not of supernatural origin.

On the other hand I've seen orbs in person (many years ago, before they became fashionable) so I don't discount them as rare - but apparently authentic - energy fields.

A true orb is a ball of energy. It soes not necessarily point to the suernatural at all. Most often, orbs caught in pictures and on film are just bugs and dust. If you truly want to learn about orbs, you can go to the-atlantic-paranormal-society.com. They investigate supposed hauntings and do their best to debunk claims.

They're an artifact of digital photography, just as ufo's are an artifact of digital film cameras... its the way the lenses and stuff work.
The faces you sometimes see in them are created by pattern recognition, 2 dots and a smudge make a face.
If you import a film or digital photo into Photoshop at a high resolution, and look at it at the pixel level, you'll find faces and orbs all over it. I've got a neat one with a creepy skull in it which is actually part of a hedge.
