Why are LDS missionaries mostly men? Are LDS mostly men? I read that male dominated churches attract more men.

First, most LDS missionaries are men because women go on their missions at the age of 21 instead of 19 (like men) and the majority of the young women are married by the age of 21, or they want to focus more on school. Secondly, the LDS church is approximately equal among the the numbers of the congration as male and female. And I as a female, plan to go on a mission when I reach 21.

I am LDS...because the men in the church are very encouraged to go on a mission, it is almost expected (at least in Utah). Of course you will not lose your membership or anything if you do not go, it is just strongly recommended. I think there are actually more LDS women than men, but not for sure on that. Women wait until they are 21 if they want to go, but they are not as encouraged just because it is more encouraged to get married and start a family...of course none of this is enforced in any way it is strictly by choice.

pinkadot is right. There are actually more female members than male members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I believe the ratio is about 2:1, actually. However, there are more young male missionaries than young female missionaries because males are expected to go, if they are able, and women are not. Women can choose to go on a mission, and they are often great missionaries if they do go, but they are not expected to go. Actually the church has a lot of older missionaries, too, especially retired couples.
