I have had "panic attacks" off and on for 7 years. They have tapered off in the last couple of years. I've tried all kinds of prescription meds and have found that Prozac works the best for me.

Go to a doctor and get some blood work done. Find out if you have any liver or kidney problems. These can cause a lot of the anxiety and depression problems that people suffer, but they end up thinking it is simply something in the brain and get on medications that don't help and can make things worse.
But if you do need to get on an SSRI (selective-serotonin reuptake inhibitor) or something along the lines of, let the doctor help you with that. There are so many different types that can have negative effects.
I got on Lexapro and it was really bad news, but I know quite a few people that it has helped a lot with. Everyone is different, especially when chemicals are involved.
The best thing, in my opinion, is to go holistic.

First of all get a complete physical by your doctor. I have both problems. My doctor prescribed Effector for the depression and Xaniex for the anxiety. I also find a hobby, reading, or getting involved in something that takes concentration helps. I find that if I get my mind off of things that are triggers for my depression & anxiety, I don't need so much medication. Some of the medications for both conditions can have side effects that make you feel spaced out. You & your doctor can come up with a plan that works best for you. To answer your other questions yes. Good luck.

does your depression include mood swings? as in being bipolar
I take Lamictal for bipolar and it works great, but it takes a while for your body to adjust. Celexa is great for depression and does not affect your sex drive. Xanax is recommende for anxiety but, I do not like taking it, cause it can be addictive. But, I deal with anxiety by exercising ( both physical and breathing exercises). I have never heard of someone being cured from anxiety.......but if you do, I would also like to know. Hang in there, stay positive and focus on one day at a time. Blessings, Margarita

I was on Venlafaxine Hydrochloride (Brand name Efexor) for quite a long period two or three years back. Not saying I'm cured because apparently my depression is triggered by genetic rather than environmental factors, but it certainly got me through a rough time.
Hope that helps

NO MEDICINE!!!!!!
Had panic attacks for 5 years almost...and I learned how to breath and meditate and how to focus my attentions to RETRAIN my brain to function normally again, and if you think Im kidding him not, I was stuck in my house for months on end, without being able to move off my couch for fear of dying...
It works, and YOU DONT NEED MEDS!!!!

ive had deppression, i took celexa, it worked really well for it. however, there is the side effect of anger and aggression, which needs to be counteracted with another. i took seroquel to counteract that.
