They have taken prayer out of schools, Trying to take In God we trust off of our currency. The ten commandments out of the courthouses, Banning TV programs for mentioning God (Touched by an angel was cancelled)ect... Why then with every disaster that America faces does our government stand up and ask America to pray or call for a day of prayer. They only want to call on God when they need something from him otherwise he is not to be mentioned. Eventually he will get tired of this. What do you think?

When you have a tumor removed, there are usually still some cancer cell in the body. That is why they give kemo followups. We have done good so far, but you need to give the government time to finish curing the country. They will stop praying soon enough.

Because America is an intensely religious society even apart from laws, we visit church and report believing in God many times more than our European counterparts.
People figure it can't hurt to pray during a disaster. It is far different from praying in schools or TV programs.

Congress still prays before their sessions.

Don't assume you know what God thinks.

I don't ask for prayers. Politicians ask for prayers because they are in front of a camera and don't want to offend anybody.
Touched by an angel was cancelled because it wasn't a very good show. And there is plenty of god on t.v. I must have deleted 20+ channels of christian programming when I got my cable.

The government is trying to create a more neutral-religion country than a Christian country. It is implied that doing those things you have mentioned above makes minority religions feel more comfortable. Personally, I think we should be a United States of many cultures and religions rather than one of neutrality. I love God, but I would not be bothered by seeing a statue of Shiva or Buddhist paintings. Everyone has different religions and it is wise to appreciate others while remaining true to ours.

Even though people don't want to acknowledge God in their daily life they still know that He has all the power to help. Why do you think that people flocked to churches after 9-11-01? I lived 50 miles from Ground Zero and the weeks following the attack people were piling into church. Now they are no where to be found. That is just human nature. We turn to God in times of need but we need Him everyday of our lives. Until we as humans realize that we will still consider him our cosmic fix-it-all instead of the living God.

Your on to something. As long as a remnant of true believers pray for a country it may still have hope.God is not American. He blessed America when it followed Him.When any nation (blessed) turns from God and follows their own sins God will eventually turn His back. Then even if a majority cry when they reap their sinful fruit,God won't return to help.

BLESSED- You truly are with that wonderful insight to ask such a compelling question. I just wish I knew the answer, why this is so. Could it be that we have become use to hearing we are "The World Superpower" and believe it, until we see an event like KATRINA that shows us there is a power Mightier and Greater than we! So then we call on that power to comfort and protect us. GOD BLESS YOU (further).

Those of weak faith always feel closest to God in times of disaster, because they need to reach out to someone when they are most desperate, and just the idea of God is comforting enough to some people. Especially those who have ties to a particular faith.

People always wanna call on God in their time of need. The great thing is he is always there and loves us unconditionally. Guess thats what makes God an awesome God, because us humans wouldn't put up with being used. Makes me sick.

I agree-

it's time we made the atheists take on some of this load.

They should pray to Charles "Zues" Darwin, the Burger Supreme court and Bill "Eros" Clinton to intercede on their behalf.

These are their gods and they represent them well...they are responsible for most of the Hepatitis B cases too...
