I did a teaching presentation on the surgery for crohns, it's actually a three step process... which turns out to be more like 3 surgeries, and he'll have to have a colostomy for a while if he goes through with it. Depending how severe it is, might have to have a colostomy for the rest of his life. It's very involved but a doctor can go through all the specifics during a consultation.

If possible, get ahold of the book "The Maker's Diet". Then, order the products from either Garden of Life or Original Medicine. They work. As an RN I usually follow conventional medicine, but these two diseases require a person to go to the root of the illness and address the bodies deficiencies. Seeing patients who have suffered for years with this disease suddenly experience better health, increased energy, regular bowel movements etc is worth reading the book. You can also get on www.gardenoflife.com or www.originalmedicine.com to learn more. Hope this helps you like it has so many others! :)

I have severe colitis as well.
Please visit the link below...it's my story / battle with the illness.
I am not selling anything. My story has a lot of very valuable information regarding the disease and a healthy treatment for it. I was on my deathbed, facing surgery when I fortunately found a way to get the upper hand.
Hope your friend starts feeling better soon. I'm pulling for them!

I went to school with a girl that has had several surgeries for Crohns. She is in great shape now, but it took realizing that she had to work at it too. She's changed her diet dramatically and has begun practicing yoga. She is also now a massage therapist and helps others with Crohns recovery post op. I think dietary changes can be a huge benefit and massage can help your friend relax post op. I hope they do really well. Wish them luck for me.

Me. I had a bowel resection when I was 18 due to Crohn's and an obstruction.
Horrific pain but the day after the surgery I couldn't believe the difference. There I was, ripped from above my belly button down to my pelvic bone..crying because the pain was gone!
