Freud had psychosexual stages. The first stage, Oral, happens between 0-18 months of age. It focuses on the mouth (sucking, biting chewing). According to Freud, conflicts unresolved during the stages (in your case, Oral) could become present in adult years. This means that your chewing/ sucking on your backpack straps resulted from unresolved conflicts in the Oral stage.
