im a christian, i believe in God

i just don't understand this concept and i dont really know of any place in the bible where jesus said he came to die for humanity's sins

i mean yeah maybe he came here to us as an example of how to live, maybe he came to give us his father's message, but couldnt God have forgiven us without the need for brutality to jesus?

i understand that Jesus was pacifist and he had to let them do what they wanted to do to him to fulfill prophesies, but how does this tie in to him "dying for my sins"?

Yeah, i've committed sins and asked forgiveness, and yes jesus was crucified, what do the two things have in common?

In the beginning God created people to be good. But then they were tempted in the Garden of Eden and ate fromt the tree. It is because of this that all humans live in a fallen state. By fallen state I mean that we all live sinful lives and deserve to get eternal punishment. God gave humans several chances throughout the Old Testament, but time and time again they went back to their sinful ways. Then Jesus Christ became human and while he was here he died on the Cross and then he rose from the dead after three days. By doing this he took on himself the punishment that we deserve. The result is that if we accept Jesus Christ (and no one else) as our personal Lord and Savior, we will have eternal life.

Nothing. Jesus came to earth to fulfill a prophecy and to teach us a new way different from the vengeful God of the old testament. He preached Love and Kindness. Man decided that He came and died for our sins. Jesus never says that. I'm adding on because I just looked at the other answers. Do any of them realize that they are quoting men not Christ????

I could give you the long version from Catechism of the Catholic Church, but here's the short version:

619
"Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures" (1 Cor 15:3).

620
Our salvation flows from God's initiative of love for us, because "he loved us and sent his Son to be the expiation for our sins" (1 Jn 4:10). "God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself" (2 Cor 5:19).

621
Jesus freely offered himself for our salvation. Beforehand, during the Last Supper, he both symbolized this offering and made it really present: "This is my body which is given for you" (Lk 22:19).

622
The redemption won by Christ consists in this, that he came "to give his life as a ransom for many" (Mt 20:28), that is, he "loved [his own] to the end" (Jn 13:1), so that they might be "ransomed from the futile ways inherited from [their] fathers"(1 Pet 1:18).

623
By his loving obedience to the Father, "unto death, even death on a cross" (Phil 2:8), Jesus fulfills the atoning mission (cf. Isa 53:10) of the suffering Servant, who will "make many righteous; and he shall bear their iniquities" (Isa 53:11; cf. Rom 5:19).

I am a Muslim.
And my religion tells me that Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) did not die, but was saved by God.
It is mentioned in Surah Maryam, Chapter 19 verse 33
"So Peace is on me the day I was born, the day that I die and the Day that I shall be raised up to life (again)".
[Al-Qur'ân 19:33]
The Qur'ân mentions that Jesus (pbuh) said "Peace is on me the Day I was born, the day that I die". "It is not stated the day that I died". It is in the future tense and not in the past tense.

JESUS (PBUH) WAS RAISED UP ALIVE
The Qur'ân further says in Surah Nisa, Chapter 4 verse 157-158:
"That they said (in boast), ‘We killed Jesus Christ the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah’ But they killed him not, Nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not-
Nay, Allah raised him up unto Himself; and Allah is exalted in Power, Wise."
[Al-Qur'ân 4:157-158]

Read Al Quran where you will get deep knowledge about Prophet Jesus (pbuh).

Islam tells us that what ever our deeds are, we are going to answer ourselfs.
No one is responsible for others deeds.
If some one kills an innocent child, and says that no problem i wount be blamed for this, because someone else is going to take the punishment for this act, then this is injustice. Therefor READ QURAN for more information and knowledge in search of truth.

Remember

There is no god but Allah, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is the messenger of Allah.

as sinners, we were destined to go to hell forever. Yet, Jesus died in OUR place. He went to hell and broke the "chains" of death it had on the human race. Now if you believe in Jesus, you will be saved, not from your words but from his Blood. God died for US so we wouldn't have to suffer in eternity. Jesus Christ is lord of all!!

jesus was beaten and killed and nailed to a cross... that was his physical death for our sins. and now, he died, God sent his son to earth and jesus knew he would die. that day when jesus was dying on the cross he was thinking of you and me and everybody else and he kinda made us a deal that if we did something wrong, he would always forgive us!
