The secularist wish the majority of this land who are Bible believers of some sort would sit down and shut up and quit voting for sure. They want a country like France which has freedom from religion rather that freedom OF religion. The North East of this country is in the majority of this same opinion. In many of our schools girls wearing a head covering is forbidden and most force many fundamentalist to give up their rules about modesty to participate in Physical education classes.
But then on the other side of the equation any "fundamentalist" do not know that Christmas and Easter celebrations were not national holidays until after the Civil War and most deniominations preached against these papish holidays until then. The holidays still shouldn't be nationalized since they promote Roman Catholic Christianity and traditions above true biblical Christianity. Yet Christians are all up at arms about removing, Christmas trees, crosses, or crucifixes, and Roman Catholic renditions of the ten commandments from public property. The Roman Catholic ten commandments remove the 2nd commandment and split the 10th commandment into 2 commandments to make it ten. Since these monuments are seldom read most don't even know the difference. The one in front of the Nueces County Sherrif's department in Corpus Christi even has the Papel symbol on it and was put there by the Lion's Club.
All of this is a violation of the establishment clause of the United States Constitution which says government is not to hinder or promote any religion meaning denominations or sects . Wish I had the funds to challenge these things in the Supreme Court when I was persecuted for not participating in these things in public schools funded by all taxpayers believers and unbelievers alike.
The right of the individual to celebrate any religion of his choice I applaud even on public property just so my tax dollars are not being used to promote or to persecute anyone for what they believe. Let the teachers decorate thier desk and the students theirs funding it themselvesand let freedom ring! Pass out tracts in the halls as long as it is an individual doing so and not the governments endorsing it! Let the students preach on the sidewalks during breaks from class. Give equal time to all individuals!

I asked a similar question a while back wondering why. Here is one of the best explanations I got:
I, as only one spiritual atheist, am here to learn about the various religions, philosophies and spiritualities of the world. I always held fascination with religions in general (not just christianity---ALL religions, old and new). I do not seek a "god" belief, but here to seek how people attain inner-peace, self-knowledge, inner-wisdom and how they attain peace in their lives in general---and that I might learn a thing or two. :-) I seek to find and improve on my own atheistic spirituality, to improve upon myself. Isn't that what spirituality is basically about? I believe so!
I also hang out here NOT to "defeat religion" but mainly to give the "other side" of the equation, to give information, and to let others know that there are more than one valid way to see, learn and experience the world. R/S section is not "just reserved for the theists". It is reserved for all.

robert p - Brother, I sense a little anger/frustration in your question. I being a Christian/believer hope the non-believers can read in this section, because with true love in our hearts this is a forum where we may reach out with the word of GOD. For those non-believers that will listen with an objective ear. This forum attracted me too, by the word religion, I soon saw the vulgarity by some who participate and I too fell short of the glory, so don't take this as any more than encouragement to continue to spread the word. "My brothers, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring him back, remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save him from death and cover over a multitude of sins."

Are you so insecure that you cannot hang around with people with different viewpoints? Is religion finally so weak that the moment it comes into contact with reason, it will collapse? Religions are also a social phenomenon that unfortunately affects us all (for example, many laws are inspired in religious beliefs, but have to be observed by all of us, believers or not), so it is in everybody's life (either as a blessing or as a pain in the áss). That's why I think I'm entitled to give my opinion on this subject, since religions won't accept my right not to be religious, and they will keep on nagging me.

Religion or religious section does not really matter. The section is for questions concerning things of religious or religion nature. Whether the none believers know it or not, their refusal to believe in an almighty being is in itself a type of religious belief. You should also look up the part where Jesus talks about "...let he who be without sin, cast the first stone..."

I think I can relate to your frustration. Some of it may come from how people interpet "spirit" or "spirituality." I have met people who used the term "clarity" to mean spirituality, whereas I would have thought they were referring to "simplifying their life." I think the atheists are jealous because they don't have an "atheist" section. So their religion becomes what they know of themselves and the world. That is going to carry over into philosophy, and as you may recall, the religion section used to be lumped into the philosophy section as well.

I don't like the fact the fact that alot of people on this site and every other site seems to think the only religion out there is one that believes in God and Jesus in some form. I'm of Native American religion and it doesn't make sense to me that so many people believe the only way to be a non-athesist is to believe that there is a God and Jesus somehow died for the people. Native Americans believe that there are many spirited forces out there that help guide us in the right direction and will take our spirits when we no longer need them and put them in something else.

No, sorry, it's the religion section, not the religious section. Now who can't read? You don't have to be religioUS to be here, just have an opinion on religioN. Which I most certainly do. You lose, better luck next time.

This is the religion and spirituality section, not the religious section. It appears that you are the one who cannot read. If you want to talk to a bunch of people who agree with you, go to church. Thanks for substantiating my belief that you theists are a narrow-minded bunch.
