Good question. In our school system they hire illegals without teaching credentials to accomodate spanish only speaking students, yet don't have time to teach my kids a second language. They actually tried for a few months, then stopped without explanation. I guess many of these hispanic students need a lot of attention, because I've pretty much been told it's my job to educate my youngest two kids myself, but I legally must send them to school anyway. Just tell a teacher you are considering home schooling if you want an angry indignant response, though. I guess they need my money guaranteed so they can educate others.

To make sure they get my order right. o.k. that was flip, but kind of true. These people perform a lot of daily tasks for us. Work in restaurants, build our houses, work in our yards. And they do a damn good job most of the time.

mcskillins is not very thoughtful. This is political trickery that backfired on the GOP. Notice how quickly they slipped back to their old boogy bears of gay marriage bringing down civilization and even dragged out flag burning to redirect the soundbites. They heard from some major contributors and remembered Hispanics (who tend to be conservative socially and economically) probably put them in office last election. Most democrats basically sat back and let the GOP beat each other up on this one. Really, if they wanted to address immigration, the GOP governors, mayors and others know exactly where to got to find them, they're not exactly running around in disguise. Go to a new construction site, Mexican restaurant or motel during working hours, that's where they'll be. There are entire neighborhoods that have nothing but Spanish signs and businesses for God's sake. But I've only heard of a couple of towns in Virginia and Pennsylvania actually doing something which proves it's only a red herring issue.

For the children's sake. This had purpose to begin with. But now do to the masses coming in that people were not prepared for--the schools are in trouble and many children are suffering. We rank very low on world wide board for education now. Talk shows and Teacher chat boards can and have told you this.
The schools get paid per students so the biggies of Schools get more money-which is not filtered down to the Teachers or system. Greed.
We need time and no more people to recover!!
What more can I say.

because their parents do alot of the hard work many Americans do not want to do. Also, the children themselves might end up doing that hard work for Americans later...but it is always good to give everyone a chance, and education gives EVERYONE a chance. In closing, "Illegal Mexicans" are a big help to America, just as any other type of immigrant.

You better be careful thats the only argument you got left. Oh to late!
americans are the ones complaining that they dont speak english,
I thought thats what you wanted them to learn english.
And if you dont think they don't belong in our schools then speak out against all the canadan immigrants in our school system FIRST ! as not to appear bias towards mexican kids!
It seem's to me that the money they leave in social security more than pays for there schooling wouldnt you agree?
Shame on you attacking kids for getting an education.
Another proud day in american history.

So they can integrate into our society and become successful Americans. And so idiots aren't yelling at them to learn the language or get out. Do not blame the children. They really have no choice in where they are, but we have a choice of whether or not we will help them and give them a chance at a better life. Or maybe we should just ignore them and leave them to a life of poverty and crime.

one reason and one reason only. Because the bleeding heart liberals are afraid to be called racist if we didnt provide stuff for people who have no right be here in the first place. Just another example of how wetbacks suck off the tit that is tax paying americans. Same reason our prisons are overpopulated by taco head felons who dont belong here, and same reason you have to wait 3 hours at an emergency room because a bunch of wetbacks are there (probly with the kids the mother held in till she crossed the border, then shyt out so they can be grandfathered in) with non emergency problems.

Shouldn't you be pushing for this through your school board? You speak as though the curriculum in every school in the US were the same, when in fact it isn't. Even one of the people who responded to your question responded that children in her school district learn Spanish and sign language. It looks to me you just posted the question to get people to ***** about illegals, and I hope you're getting ready to march to your next school board meeting and exercise your right to demand something more from them. You certainly are entitled to that.

BTW...Can't help notice that Evi_E, who wrote a very "eloquent" dismissal of the need for Spanish, could use a few lessons in English spelling and grammar.

Not all of them are illegals. Some do come here legally, so have a right to learn English. The intention of ESL is help student to learn English easier. Let us not punish the kids just because their parents come here illegally.
