not generally. 'hy' takes up more space in writing the word out, and 'hi' is already short by itself. there's no need to make 'hi' shorter, so most people don't use 'hy'... if u do, though, people will probably understand u, even if they think you are wierd.

actually "hi" is the short form of hiya. in the british english when u meet some one who u know ist a greeting asking them "how are you" which enquires emotionally and physically...but that has been shortend to hiya as "how are you" sounds like "hiya" when spoken fastly...u cant spell hi as hy....

I don't think so. Hi is already short. You can't shortened it by using hy.

If you mean written english then look in a dictionary. I am guessing that it is slang. They both sound the same.
