It's only unusual for people who don't eat olives!
Sliced cooked eggs and olives are wonderful(serve over the top for anyone who doesn't like them) but if making it mixed in I would leave out the salt since the olives have so much, also jalapenos is good!

I've always used green olives in potato salad .I prefer it that way instead of using pickles.
