smoking, drinking, tattoos, dancing, sex, using bad language...etc... I am asking christians what you think about these things as pertaining to the bible. I know what the bible says on most of these issues, but I still would like to hear from others your opinions. Please be specific using verses if you would like. And please be serious about your answers. Thank you.

I think "worldy" things are not really the main thing to focus on. Every person on the planet, Christian or Non-Christian, will commit sin, regardless of whether they try to swear off one vice or another. The key is believing in someone who can save us from that. Most of all, when you hold any of these worldly things above God, then your priority is what is basically in question.

So, tattoos, dancing, drinking, smoking, swearing--- I've seen Christians do all these things. Is it a good representation of Christians? Actually, probably yes-- since Christians are just people. Is it a good representation of Christ? No, it isn't. People are people-- but aspiring to be more Christ-like, asking for forgiveness for sins and believing that Jesus saves us from that, and working to understand God's word is what a real Christian tries to do, regardless of the sin that s/he has or commits.

According to the bible, your body is a temple; a gift of God. That being said, tattooing, drinking and smoking would be defacing that temple/gift. So, essentially doing those things would be wrong. It has alos been said that our body is just a tool, and that our soul is the only thing that passes on. Can you permanently tattoo a soul? I think it's really important to remember that the bible was written by man, and no matter how you look at it, stories become skewed over time. So, another question might be: was it really God that said you should not do these things, or were they simply tabu things that the church wished to discourage at the time. God also gave us the freedom to choose, and in the long run, he/she is the judge that matters. You should live your life by the feeling in your heart. When it comes right down to it, you know what's right ans what's wrong, and you'll be facing God at the end. Not all the hypocrites who judge others everyday even when the bible says not to. And who ever thinks that dancing is a sin, it just plain crazy. Everyone would be going to Hell.

I have a lot of unanswered questions in my personal beliefs. Smoking is bad for your health and others. Drinking is ok in small amounts. Again it can be bad for your health and those around you. Tattoos I don't want any but if someone elts does go ahead. Dancing if fun for some (personally not for me). Sex is up to the individual person when he or she wants to experience that in their life. Bad language not for me. I personally would like to get ride of it but they are just words they can't hurt. These things all are little things that really could have no major effect on your life. What does the bible say about deforestation and World hunger, Aids, Cancer things that effect millions. People today should worry about the problems that face us today. Not little petty little differences that mean nothing. What a book says that was written hundreds of years ago should have no effect on how we live our lives.

I think these things seperate christians from non-christians. But breaking each one down, smoking is a bad example when trying to bring someone to Christ, plus is defiles our body which is the temple where the Holy Spirit lives.

Drinking is okay but not in excess; to get drunk, but casually on occassion I believe is fine.

Tattoos is a another thing that I kind of debate about, I think in the Old testament it has something to do with a ritualistic act but I'm not sure so I cant really say bad or good.

Sex is okay in MARRIAGE but outside of marriage is defiling your temple and you should not fornicate, it becomes to many tranfer of spirits that dwell in you unless you get deliver from them. Plus it was never meant to have children without 2 parents look how it affects the children and the whole circle of life and society today.

Bad language it says the tongue is untamable, but we cant purposely go around using bad language, it doesn't please God and were not being a good example unto others.

Thanks 4 letting me share:)

I agree with Penny S' - MOM - But of course I have too go a little more in depth - My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires. Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

If it's a Christian doing these things (smoking drinking, tattoos, bad language, sex outside of marriage), he has a poor testimony. Dancing is fine, but not dirty dancing or with gyrations.

Do you wear cosmetics, jewelry, fashionable clothes and style your hair? Do you have opinions?

< In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works. Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.>

- 1 Timothy 2nd chapter

The New Testament condemns just about everything except praising "god" and praying for the end of the world.

some of us are fortunate to wake up and ask ourselves some questions like why am i doing this it has been a learned and accepted habit of the community there are stages of regressing to go through until we come to the realization we do have a choice and it did not come from another, in this way we realy can stop that cycle/circle and find the exit door. but then you enter into a new dimention of seeing and living here is that freedom. it can not be forced it is a true desire of the one.

smoking-not good, especially for your health.
drinking-ok if you can stick to drinking 2 beers once a month and you can go without it for a year. If one cannot control his/her drinking, then drinking becomes a problem. It is best to do it only on occasion (2 beers once every 3 months).
tatoos-i don't care for them, and neither do decent people.
dancing-good if it is in a civilized setting...otherwise it can get you into trouble...
sex-good for procreation and enjoyment in a committed (married) relationship
using bad language-if you want to be among good people, you will refrain from using it.

These are some of the ways that we are tempted to live according to the ways of the world. Not that anyone who falls into temptation is lost but those who make the world their way of life without repentance, well, this is what the Bible says:
John 12:25
He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life
