My dog is german shepherd / retriever mix.

The reason I am asking this is because don't want him to possibly flip his stomach on a walk.

The only way i can figure would be to check his teeth for remnants of food and smell his breath. Thats how i check!

Walking a dog right after you feed it is good for it's digestive system - just make sure you have a poop scope and a bag along :)

aside from checking the food dish - I'm sure the vet can tell via some mechanism however I doubt us laymen can figure it out just by looking at the animal.

hmmm, well i'm not sure why that would really matter but if it is because you are worried it ate something bad for it, you can induce vomiting. i heard that you can do this simply by giving the dog a spoonful of peroxide...but i would call the vet first!

Check his/her dish if it's empty then you'll know if he/she has eaten.
