I'm Mormon; I converted a little over ten years ago having previously been an Evangelical Christian. (I am still a Christian of course, just not evangelical!) I have read that ex-Mormon site, and I don't recognise half the doctrines and experiences they talk about. The church to me means community, love, genuine faith, holiness in everyday life, and the most wonderful blessings imaginable.
We study the scriptures more than any church I have ever attended - the Bible as well as the Book of Mormon. In fact, this year's course of study is the Old Testament. We don't drink alcohol, tea or coffee and we don't smoke or do drugs - but we still have some great parties. We don't have sex outside marriage, and we hold family in the highest regard.
We believe that all mankind are brothers and sisters, and children of the same Heavenly Father who wants us to return to him. For this reason many of our young men and women give up two years of their lives to tell others about the restored gospel.
I have never regretted my decision to be baptised and it has brought me so close to my Father and Saviour. I'm sure your friends will be happy to tell you about the church or invite you to a social. Otherwise there is more information on www.mormon.org which is the church site for non-members and investigators.

I'm an atheist who was raised a Baptist and studied many different religions.
As a self appointed religion critic, Mormons are the only Christian denomination I recommend.
Mormons require their members to actually think, participate in their services, follow rules, provide a means to repent if you violate the rules and are the most "Christian" of all Christian denominations.
If you insist on having imaginary friends, you can do no better than following Mormon doctrine.

I caution you to not rely on what ex-mormons say, of course they are going to hate on the church...
I am Mormon. Our perspective on life? We believe we are all spirit sons and daughters of God. In the premortal existance there were two plans, Jesus' and Lucifer's. God the Father chose Jesus' plan...we all chose to come to this earth to gain a body and have experiences that would prepare us for our divine destiny: to become like our Heavenly Father. We believe in eternal marriage through the right authority in our temples. We believe families can be together forever by staying faithful to the promises and covenants made in the temple. We are constantly taught to follow Christ's perfect example of love and charity. We are not weird or scary, we are normal people with high family and moral values. We believe Jospeh Smith saw and spoke with God the Father and Jesus Christ, that he restored the fulness of Christ's gospel to the earth for the last time in this dispensation. Any other questions, visit LDS.org or contact me for more info I would be glad to answer any questions.

They are nice people one on one. But the group is a cult. I'm sorry to say it. Your friends are probably nice people. But they are not a good organization to be a part of.
They make horrible statements about Christ.
The book of Morman is false. It is nothing but "new age and science fiction like" popular culture of the 1800's.
They get people to do weird things for them.
Keep your friends. Just do not become part of that religion.
If I were you I would take some time to find out about cults. Plenty of sites on the net.

We believe in Christ, he is the head of our church.
We believe in mariage for eternity, not till death do us part.
We believe high moral standards, sexual intimacy is only between lawfully wedded husband and wife.
We respect family values. Parents has the reponsibility of nourishing their children both physically and spiritually.
We aslo taught to be self reliant, work, and be a good citizen.

Some of out beliefs are that we should be modest in our dress and appearance, should not use the name of God in a profane manner, not using profanity in general, being kind and compassionate to those that are different or similar, loving out enemies, keeping the Word of Wisdom (not drinking coffee, alcohol, tea besides herb and sleepytime, or anything with caffiene or harmful chemicals) - the list goes on and on!

The best way to ask what they believe is to ask them. People on the internet always have skewed or biased views, including myself (I'm a Mormon) Ask them for a Strength of Youth pamphlet. It explains a lot of our standards.

I read this web site. It is written by people who used to be Mormon. They have a detailed knowledge of the workings of the church. There are hundreds of articles written by hundreds of people. You might like to start there.

When you die you become a god with your very own parallel dimension to play with. 10% of their yearly income goes to the Church. It's a long tedious process of interrogation to leave the Church. Thats all i know about Mormons.
