In the song "The Night They Drove Ol' Dixie Down", Richmond had just burned, people are starving and the as the song goes, people stood around signing, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La. These have got to be some of the dumbest lyrics ever penned.

What do you think? Any other really dumb lyrics?

My point being that the Confederacy is losing, Richmond is burning and people are signing La,La,La,La etc.

When the World Trade Centers were hit, we did not stand around signing La, La, La, La etc. We tried to help the victims, we pulled together and we never gave up.

I don't think the La, La, La's were filler, as the song states, this is what the people were signing while this was going on

I never thought of it but I see your point. All that la la laing makes the whole thing sound a little trivial given the rest of the situation in the song.

However, that la la laing is really just filler, using the human voice as if it were an instrument doing an interlude. If there was a guitar wailing or a saxophone wa wa waing you wouldn't think twice about it. It's best to consider the "la la la" as not a part of the lyrics.

Lyrics may be dumb, but the song was still good.

Cyndi said 'she bop, he bop, a-we bop. I bop, you bop, a-they bop. Be-bop, be-bop-aloobop' (I don't even understand). Hey, that reminds me of 'Wop, bop-a-loo-bop, a-wop-bam-boom...Tooti, Frooti...' (thanks, Richard). The B52's said 'yeah yeah-yeah, yeah yeah-yeah, yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah, dance this mess around'. Do you remember the story about my grandma and your grandma, 'Akimo fi-na, a na nay...akimo fi-na-nay'. While Whitney was waiting to exhale, she was singing 'shoop, shoop, shoop, shooby-shoop, shoop, shoop, shooby-shoop, shoop, shoop, shooby-shoop...'. While we were being told to take a walk on the 'wild side', the colored girls were singing 'doo doo doo doo-de-doo, doo doo doo doo-de-doo, doo doo doo doo-de-doo doo doo doo...' I thought this last one rather profound. How about you...Babe?
