reduce eating acidic foods like lemons, oranges, tomato sauce and stop kissing others with open sores on their mouths.

The retainer might be causing some irritation. My son had braces for awhile and he found he often got sores inside his mouth where the braces touched. If it's not the retainer, you may have low iron or B12 in your blood. Ulcers in the mouth are often a symptom of this. I've had low iron for a couple of years now and when I don't have it under control I get ulcers. Stress and fatigue can also play a part in ulcers as can certain foods like tomatoes.

These usually accrue when chewing something for along time and especially now that you have a retainer. They could be cold sores but with the retainer ... I don't think so. When I had braces and then a retainer, this was common because I used my tongue to move food around or to try and get from my retainer thus causing the sores. Usually they went away but would come back again if anything got stuck in my braces, retainer or just plainly between my teeth.

It will happen more but I wouldn't be too concerned about it. Talk to your orthodontist. He/she will give you tips on how to prevent this from happening.

I used to get them all the time when I played a Euphonium in High School and College Band and used a Stainless Steel mouthpiece. I think the metal may have had something to do with it. I don't get them any more. The dentist told me to take acidopholus tablets from the Health Food store or to drink lots of live culture buttermilk and yogurt. Both methods worked. The only other time this has happened was when I took large doses of antibiotics after a bout with pneumonia. It seems they killed off the good stuff along with the bad.

I'm no expert, but you can get cancer sores (ulcers) from too much salt, biting your tongue, etc. You may want to ask your orthodontist to check your retainer for any rough spots that might cause the irritation.

If its just the tip of your tongue, are you not knowlingly playing with your retainer with your tongue? If you are getting them elsewhere in your mouth its from the kinds of things that you are eating. Every time I eat fruit I get them.
