my mother will visit my sister and her husband in US and we had an argument because, i think my sister, is forcing me to buy a present for her husband even though they had a much more better job than than us (my wife).the way my mother tell me about this thing is, i think, that its like that i should follow what they are saying.i gave them a negative answer about this thing, giving them two reasons. first reason; they should wait if i want to give my brother-in-law a present or not. second,i told my mother that before, my wife gave them a present (WITHOUT ASKING ANY FROM THEM AND ON HER OWN WILL), so i think they should realize that its also their time and on their own will to give also a present for my wife, but i heard nothing from them. i know that my brother-in-law is innocent on this matter and also know that he's good.i think my sister is the one whos making this issue, am i right, can anybody give me a good opinion. ty

You are right! just keep calm and relax, do your things and ignore them. Giving present is depends on your will, so they are not supposed to force you to do it. Unless they feel that you are being so stingy in that matter. You are in one a family,so tell them what inside of you., Be prank and have a peace in your heart that you dont hurt anybody or somebody hates you.

You have me baffled. I'm not quite sure what you are trying to say. She wants you to bring them both a present just cause you are coming to the US to visit them?
I guess it is somewhat customary to bring your hosts a gift but at the same time I do not know what your family customs are (I am assuming you are from a different country). But in general if this is your sister being a moron tell her to shut up and then don't get her a present but do get her husband one.
Good Luck.

you are right, she's wrong. Why should he get a present if it is not a special occasion? And even if it is a special occasion, you don't but a present if you can not afford it.
