I've never understood this, what's wrong with being obvious? Guys have to be obvious when we show a girl we like them.
Yeah, and flashing doesn't hurt either.

Even back when I was a pompous ***, I always loved people, whether girls or other guys, coming up and saying hello to me.
Actually, saying anything to me will make me interested in that person.
Now, I'm prepared to pay money for a girl to come up and talk to me!
Beware, however, most guys are superficial and you'll need to impress him with your conversation skills, so just be cool and try to understand his body language. If he seems annoyed (looking away or at his watch), just smile at him and back away!
So go over to him and say hello. Ask him if he's enjoying himself (if relevant), introduce yourself then ask him, after you feel he's OK with you talking to him, to have a walk with you. Talk him into getting his phone number.
It's as simple as that.

The real question is why shouldn't you be obvious? If you want to get his attention you shouldn't worry about what anybody else thinks.
I always wondered why men have to be obvious and women so discrete.

amen kandyman! trying to get attention is the biggest turn off. i aovid girls who do that. any decent guy wants a real girl. tan doesnt matter, weight doesnt matter, they want someone real that they can talk to. not someone who is trying impress him. now if the guy you want isnt decent and needs to be impressed then just make out with him or do something ballsy, but the relationship will be a joke and meaningless. but you'll try like all the other love sick, desperate teenagers on yahoo! answers to squeeze out any glimmer that the relationship is meaningful.
