in the properties, it says opens with Media Player, but when I try it, a window pops up and says Windows Media Player can not open this file. What can I do to resolve this problem?

A thm file is a thumbnail sized thing, and usually they are not the same as the file that they are a thumbnail of. Your camera software has intruded into things and so you should use your camera's software to view the files, or find out what image format your camera uses [usually .jpg or .jpeg, but could be others] and find them and you can open them with the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.

I believe its the RAW format file. Check your camera settings for the format selected. You need a special software that may have come with your camera to open it.

You should be able to open it with the Windows Image Viewer ... right click on the file, click on open with, then scroll down to windows image viewer and click on it. Should do it.
