I never brushed my daughter's teeth when she was a baby, I waited til she could do it somewhat on her own at 1 and a half and nothing happened to her teeth. she is now 8. I now have a almost 5 month old son, with no teeth yet..yes, i keep readin in books the importance of brushing baby teeth. Hello, they fall out anyway!!! Who agrees with me?

Pretty gross that you don't consider brushing a child's first teeth as important. I started brushing by children's "first" teeth as they came up. In addition to promoting a healthy mouth, it also helps promote good hygiene at a young age. Your little boy may NOT be as lucky as his older sister. You really SHOULD brush his teeth.

My mom would probably agree with you! She watches my boys during the day and gives them their baths every day, but she refuses to brush their teeth. I brush them at night before bed. My younger son (11 months) loves it...I think the bristles tickle his gums. My older son (27 months) give me a FIT when he sees the toothbrush coming. I've tried everything, and FINALLY got some Thomas the Tank Engine training toothpaste, and now he'll "tolerate" me brushing his teeth. If I give him the brush, he just chews on it with his molars.

I think it's important to brush childrens' teeth because they CAN have bad breath, which isn't pleasant, and I wouldn't want either of my kids to get a cavity. Anyone who's ever had one knows how unpleasant they can be. Can you imagine taking a 2 or 3 year old to the dentist to have a cavity filled? OMG...

I can see your point about that the teeth will fall out eventually, however by not cleaning the baby's teeth you could be risking an oral infection of some type and you don't want to mess with any type of oral infections as they can get right into the bloodstream and possibly cause other damage elsewhere inthe body. I would definitely clean the baby's teeth/gums just to be sure. My aunt used to put her son to bed with a bottle and his baby teeth turned brown and rotted out - it was not pretty. He had no choice in the matter as he was just an infant - not fair if you ask me. I try to remember to clean my son's baby teeth every day, and have been cleaning his gums for quite some time now. Another reason to clean a baby's teeth/gums is to get him/her in the habit of practicing good oral hygiene - it is never to soon to establish good habits - it is harder to break bad ones later. Okay, finally, don't you want your baby to have the brightest most beautiful smile as possible?

It doesn't matter that they fall out. It's the condition of the gums when the adult teeth arrive. There is also a great possibility that the teeth that are not brushed can kill the nerves causing there to be no adult teeth to grow. Be safe and think of your childs "smile" future. Think what your family pictures would look like with your 15 year old without front teeth... YIKES!!

Yes they fall out but if the baby teeth are bad the adult teeth will be bad too. Besides kids learn how to brush better if its part of their every day routine from early on.

it doesn't matter that they are going to fall out, children can get gum disease from not brushing. Baby teeth do fall out yes, but they also have to last atleast 5 years before they start falling out. How would you feel if you didn't brush your teeth for 18 months?

My son is 6 months old...I have been brushing his teeth since they first appeared last month...I think it is very important to do it now...you dont want their teeth falling out before they are meant too..you are also getting them use to doing it...good for starting good habits..

They make toothbrushes in stages...and baby toothpaste without flouride in it. As soon as they get teeth, you should be brushing them...otherwise they get cavities just like you do. Would you like to go without brushing your teeth...that's disgusting

Sorry i don't agree. Oral hygeine is very important from day one. You don't want to chance messing up the adult teeth that come in RIGHT BEHIND those baby ones

If your child gets a cavity in the baby tooth it is passed on to the permanant tooth. Important to keep them healthy and clean and keep up good habbits. Monkey see monkey do.
