You know the kind you buy in the jar? How long will it keep in the refrigerator before it goes bad after you open it? How do you know if it is bad?

If it's still the original color and still smells like garlic it's ok. It may loose a little bit of its potency but I have some in the fridge at my mountain cabin that is over 2 years old and still good.. When it goes bad it will start turning brown.

I don't know exactly, but after a couple of months it does start to lose it's punch. Then again I've noticed the stuff in jars isn't as good as fresh to begin with. I recommend that you get a garlic press (about $1.69 or so) at Wal-Mart or the like, and just mince it fresh.

it should have an exparation date on the jar lid. That said it will usually keep about a month in the fridge after it has been opened.

The color will change and the smell will get stronger when it starts to turn. Like i said I would pitch it after about 30 days

It basically stays good indefinitely. The only thing that will happen is it might dry out or smell a little off when it goes.

it should last a long time. It would smell and lose flavor when bad

It doesn't go bad, it goes stale.
It's not as flavorful as when you first opened it.
