Why do some religons shun and fear Pagans, Wiccans, and *insert nature based worship here*?

The thing that gets me most is spell casting... Sending out (positive) energy to try to achieve your aim... Witches call it a magick spell, Christians call it praying...

(not trying to bait Christians but historically the two are most interlinked)

Actually when Christians pray we do not believe that we are sending out good energy, but that we have a direct line of communication with the Creator of the universe who is able to do all things and who loves us enough to do exactly what we need... not always what we want.

The thing I find with Wiccans is that they do not submit to a higher authority - they believe that they have the power to change and influence our world and other people in ways that they truly cannot. Only God has the authority to heal and to help and to save - it is self-deception to think that you are able to do these things by sending out positive energy.

I have been studying witchcraft for about 7 years and the anti-witchcraft fears and shuns are because 1. the Christianity and other such religions have made witchcraft negative and bad they believe that witchcraft believers worship the devil and that's not true. witches do not believe that the devil even exists.
2. Hollywood has made witches with long pointed noses with warts and fly on brooms and eat children. this is also false. Witches believe in the 3 fold rule. that is what we say,do,and think will come back on us with 3 times the strength. so if we harm anyone it will be 3 times worse on us. Witchcraft is a nature based religion of love, hope ,and hard work.

You are quite right, there is not much difference between praying and casting spells, except that the spells really work.

The reason for members of organised religions to despise the non-organised forms of belief and worship is simply a matter of power. They want to control and brainwash everyone with their doctrines. And since this does not work with any true Pagans, Wiccans, Druids etc., they hate them and conduct campaigns and even wars against them. It's all about power.

Its real simple...

Look at the roles and position of women, in particualr young women in pagan new age wiccanisim.

Compared to christianity or islam. In fact if you look at islam compared to wiccanisim its crystal clear.

Wiccanism is the ONLY religion that empowers females as equals, where men and women are two parts of a whole and in empowering women you have to have a positive attiude to sex, affection and sexaulity as its the primary way woemn are empowered.

The other relgions have one figure, and its male, clearly and a dominant repressive one as well.

The main relgions are about power, increasing numbers and dominance.

The new age type one is not. Its about harmony between men and women and nature. Chilling out and enjoying life.

As long as you harm none do as you will.

So that means most sex stuff is seen as good as are orgasisms as a spiritual climax.

Many of their rituals involve sex.

Its not seen as dirty or immoral.

Beauty is supposed to be seen as something good.

So wicccans want people happy.

Christianity is and islam is geered to keeping people unhappy so they need a loving cult and hope of a better world. Withotu that the church and islam has no power.

if people are happy within themselves they have no need for the relgion or after life so dont have to obey.

Plus where beauty is welcomed and pleasure from sex with no intention of procreation.

Then females are empowered through the ability to entrance, create desire and this was deemed bewitchment and evil magic by horribly sexaully repressed violent priests hence witch burning

Im Christian, while i dont shun pagans etc I guess you could say I fear them. Most wiccans agree that not everyone is able to control that type of power, and if someone inexperienced used it it could be dangerous. I believe that only Jesus has that power so I feel uncomfortable with people who use it because I feel it could be unsafe.
Again, with praying and spells I would say the main difference is that Christians are relying on God or Jesus to perform, but Wiccans are relying on their own power.
I agree that the differences arent as numerous as people think, but they are significant.

Because of the propaganda the church has feed Christians about Witchcraft and Paganism.

But, I always take solace in knowing that Christians practice Witchcraft everyday without realizing it, like making a wish and blowing out a candle on a birthday cake. That's a prime example right there. It's Witchcraft in it's simplest form, but it's still Witchcraft.

l think most people misunderstand (or don't bother to try and understand) pagan beliefs. When a witch cast a spell it is, in a sense, the same as a christian praying. He/She is honoring a certain God or Goddess. I think most people still hold on to old beliefs about Witchcraft...ie. black cats, hexes and broom sticks. Not all pagan religions involve witchcraft and those that do are not as odd as people think.

People hate out of IGNORANCE. They hate out of FEAR...
Simply put.
Contrary to one a previous answerer wrote... Wiccans do have a ":Higher Authority". The All has the Goddess and God parts. We simply have two that act as one. Spellcasting and ritual are out form of asking the deity for help in achieveing personal goals and for doing their part in facilitating the greater good of all of the creatures of nature.
the only issues i have with some christians is their inability to open their minds to something that is not the same as their little bubble of a world. Closed-minded Hyporcacy is the issue...

Because of ignorance, lack of interest and education. When confronted with something that they perceive goes against their beliefs or they are unfamiliar with, the common response is that it is not true, they don't believe it, it is crazy, or it is evil. I have found that they usually don't have a clue, don't know, and don't want to know, it's just because that is what the minister or their mommy and daddy told them when they were kids. Ironically, that is why most of them are Christians also. Not because they are actually knowledgeable or educated on the subject, but because that is what the minister and their mommy and daddy always told them.

People fear what they don't understand, the Christians are a bunch of hypocrites, they took so many parts of other religions and assimilated them into their own fake religion.

I think Witchcraft is a great thing, anyone who disagrees is either closed minded or covering it up.

The Bible speaks (in various verses) clearly and specifically not to be involved in witchcraft.

Deuteronomy 18:10 Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, 11 or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. 12 Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD, and because of these detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you. 13 You must be blameless before the LORD your God.
