The worst complication of this type of condition is intestinal obstruction, either of the small or large intestine (bowel). Obstruction leads to local ischemia of the bowel. This inturn leads to infartion witch is fllowed by necrosis of the bowel wall. The contents of of the bowel (feces and bacteria) then spill into the peritoneal cavity, a sterile envirment, contaminating it leading to septic shock. At this point, the patient will suffer the complications of septic shock (disseminated intravascular coagulation, acute respritory distress, ect..). Most will unfortunatly die.

if that happens then there would be no movement of the bowels leading to bowel obstruction if this is not corrected then the person will not feel hungry and that will lead to malnutrition. to fix this the person may need a bowel resection in which a part of the bowel can be taken out if the condition has been so far that a part of the bowel has experienced ischemia ( lack of o2) and the cells died. if its not that far then the person can be started on laxatives (stool softner) and drink a lot of fluids and eat good fiber that will open him up. to figure out where the obstuction is a colonscopy needs to be done.

NO peristalsis??? NONE? Highly unlikely. There is no way that just the ingestion of food or fluids can move the bowels. There is peristaltic movement from the esophagus all the way to the rectum.
