I do not want links to sites that are offering swim lessons. I want links that have useable information for me to teach my daughter how to swim.

My son's doctor talked to us about this at his 18 months appointment. He said that by the age of 2 he has to absolutely take water familiarization classes, so that he doesn't develop a fear or phobia. He should keep taking these and other skill lessons until about 5-7 years old, which is when he should be taking actual swimming lessons. Any earlier than that wouldn't be practical because it would be too much pressure. Also, if your child DOES learn to swim earlier than that : DO NOT assume that they will swim at will or to save their lives or that of others. They are not capable at such a young age to understand the concept of swimming as a life saving skill. So, be careful and to be safe, go to a class that is certified and also gives you CPR and other classes so that you are familiar in case something bad happens. Swimming is a skill that can save your or your child's life later in life, don't take advice on web sites as gospel!!! The oly sure way to learn or teach someone is by a professional and certified instructor. I am terrified of the water but don't want my son to be, that's why I am taking him to his lesson and will never let him miss them... Hope this helps!!! Good luck!!!

You really should take her to swimming lessons instead of relying on the internet. If you don't want to spend the money on swimming lessons (even though they are about the most important lessons children can take) then you should just try putting her in floaties and let her get used to the pool then try teaching her how to go underwater and eventually teach her how to swim by kicking.

I was a lifeguard before I had my daughter and I taught swimming lessons for the little ones in the baby pool. I could give you a few hints as to how to get them used to the water.

Play lots of games that make them comfortable in the water....like throw floating objects across the baby pool and have them go get them, play alligator (walk around in the pool on your belly using only your arms and chase each other)....motorboat (blow bubbles with your mouth in the water and sing a song about a motorboat).

Once they are comfortable with those, you can practice floating (have them lay on their backs first and stick their belly up while your hands support under them, eventually removing your hands and see them float themselves!) Make sure if they do this, you give them lots of praise.

Then practice floating on your belly with face in the water....(more advanced)

This progress will be in weeks, dont' expect them to do these right away.

And it's very important to teach them to never run by the pool, and never jump head first into the water (dive) until they can swim in the deep end.

Good luck

check the library the should have swim videos for infants starting at 3 months

im having trouble finding an on line link I know that you begin by blowing on the baby's face then dunking them so they learn to hold there breath, after they get good you let them spend more time under the water. I forget how you begin teaching them to flip on there back to breathe...

Your daughter is only 2-3 years old. She is too young to swim. She is still learning to walk and adjust to her feet. So how can she swim at this age.

I bought floaties and used them for about 1 summer but when they start jumping get a life jacket one of my boys jumped in and the floaties fell of so they are not very safe once they get warmed up to the water. just put her in the water with floaties or life jacket and let her go at her own pace and she will figure it out in no time.
