I have a wonderful dog (he is 12 months old) who is a saluki/greyhound. He is very thin, all his injections are up to date, he is wormed regularly and he is fed good quality suitable food. Unfortunately his hip bones are still showing - is this normal? any advice on feeding him up slightly?

Saluki are supposed to have hip bones showing. My dog's breed standard requires my dogs to have prominent hip bones as well. Here you go>> http://www.dogbiz.com/dogs-grp2/saluki/saluki.htm
You can compare your with these, and see how yours relates.

Its probably normal, Sulukis and Greyhounds are both very thin dogs..Its how they are built. At 12 months old he still has some growing and filling out to do and over the next few months you will notice it.I would feed him at least twice a day but not huge amounts as Greyhounds are prone to Bloat(I lost one this way)enjoy him sounds like a great mix!

You should ask the vet if his weight is normal. We can't see him so it is going to be harder to say. Generally salukis are thinner and their hips will show more than other breeds. Being a mixed breed makes it more difficult to say with certainty. I wouldn't recommend increasing his food intake without talking to the vet first. You don't want to overfeed him because that can cause more problems later.

Long, lean and fit is characteristic of this breed. I own Italian Greyhounds and they too tend toward the skinny lean but muscular look. Here is a link with some breed specific information.

Go to a dog show and look at some other Saluki's; talk to the owners and breeders and I'm sure you'll have your mind set at rest.
If you're vet checked him recently and passed him as fit you've no worries - your vet would have said something if he was concerned!

well first things first be sure he's on a large breed formula food, and if he's under 1.5 years then be sure it's a puppy formula. Ask yourself..."Is my dog still hungry?" If he mows through a full dish of food and will eat more if you refill it, he might be. BUT keep in mind with the 2 breeds he's mixed with he SHOULD be a thin dog! If you still have concerns talk to your vet, but i bet it's just cause of his breed.

you ought to hire and watch some episodes of The canines Whisperer with Cesar Millan. it quite is many of the appropriate perception into canines habit i've got ever seen. interior the recommend time, scaring the canines whilst he bites you isn't unavoidably the worst difficulty that could desire to take place. If it skill that he's petrified of biting human beings, then is that particularly this variety of undesirable difficulty? My domestic dog bit me as quickly as, and that i shouted ouch and bopped her on the nostril. i've got on no account hit her different than gently that one time (and that i possibly don't have). She hasn't bitten all people to in the present day (no longer even an attempt on the vet). even whether it quite is in play, you may desire to supply up it precise there. i've got heard from others that a noisy "Ouch!", status up as huge as a threat and raising your palms to make your self bigger oftentimes works. it is a few thing you may desire to renounce. He can chew his chunk toys, yet he can't chew you or the lead when you consider that it quite is a prepare of dominance. he's attempting to take over the management place on your place. you may desire to step up and fill this place so as that he can't. If he's sufficiently previous, i might recommend getting him neutered. this might help to cut back his urges to take over. additionally, walks with you on top of issues are a good thank you to take on the management place your self and shrink his potential ranges so he does not have as a lot reason to get into problem. of course, those walks might desire to be executed properly or the have the different effect. If he's ideal the walk, then in his innovations, he's your %. chief. good luck!

he's fine. In these breeds it is normal to be able to feel the hip bones and the last three rib bones. If you can fit your fingers between all his rib bones he is underweight.
don't worry. He sounds perfectly healthy

His hip bones are suppose to show. Have you ever seen a roly-poly human sprinter or long distance runner? They should be fit and lean.
