oh that is all nonsense, if dandelion had poor vascular system it wouldnt be able to grow on pretty dry soil. if you cannot sustain flowers without roots, than all flourists could look for new job, there ARE many plants with milky sap that u can put in a vase and they will last pretty long, etc. the fact is that dandelions make new and new flowers rather than having the same flower for a long time, so they even on the plant wont last very long. it is just general fact that dandelions will curl up and die in one days time. i suggest u mark a single dandelion in the garden, follow it from a bud, and check how long it will last and u will see that not MUCH longer then when u pick it. also take note of this: the individual little flowers of the inflorescence open from side to centre. so when the central ones are still closed (u see them packed together) the dandelion is quite young and will last longer. but if all individual little flowers (even the central ones) are open and shedding pollen -then it will not.

Just pick a new one. Dandelions have a poor vascular system to transport water.

Dandelions use heavy milky sap inside their stems. Roots give them the water, then its metabolisms manofactures sap, so water may not be as useful to them as it is for Roses, (they have more watery sap).

can only do so much in water. it needs roots to survive. sometimes you can get it to put down roots, but mostly not. same reason cut flowers die fast
