Color corrections should NOT be attempted at home!!!!!!!!!
NO NO NO NO!!!!! PLEASE PLEASE go to salon pro!! :)
Color tints, whether permanent or demi-permanent, cannot lift itself out of the hair. It just adds more layers of color product to try to lift out of the hairshaft. Previously color-treated hair is more tricky to color than hair that hasn't ever received a color or other chemical treatment. Colored hair that has been processed is POROUS fiber and should be handled with a lot of TLC!!
What needs to be done is using a color remover that GENTLY lifts out the artificial pigments(the "dyes") without touching the natural pigments you were born with. Rusk Company (this is professional color product line---can't get it in the supermarket, etc.) makes a great product called ELIMIN8. Have your colorist use this or a bleach lightner with dedicated developer formulated for your hairtype. (I like the Wella lines) Follow this with the shade of choice in a Deposit -only Demi-permanent glaze to achieve the final shade.
It may take more than one process(to strip the previous shades)! Hair color goes from dark to light and back again in several stages. So be patient, you will get there!
Condition in between the steps, and then immediately after your color correction to save the hair from damage and breakage problems. Use a conditioner in the shower every time you shampoo, that detangles and hydrates, and then about 2x weekly condition with a protein pack or mask. Leave on a few minutes and rinse. Or wrap your head in a damp moist towel for up to 20 minutes and sit outside in the summer sunshine! Rinse and feel soft, silky strands and glossy shiny hair. Also keep getting those regular trims to keep ends from breaking!

I went from dark brown to blonde and I have also gone from vibrant red to blonde. I used a super Blonde pre-lightener first both times for the full developing time. The trick then is to pick an Ash blonde colour to put on not a golden toned one. This is because browns/reds contain red tones so golden blondes will react with this and go orangey. You need the purple pigments in an Ash tone to counteract this - the end result will not be overly ash so don't panic if that is not the effect you want!

you can strip your hair of the colour you have put into it but i would suggest having this done at a reputable salon as you will also strip your hair of its natural nutrients. Putting another colour on top after you have had the colour removed will make your hair brittle and prone to breaking (hair coloured blonde often suffers this anyway!) Use an intensive 3 minute conditioner once a week, and use a specific blonde conditioner every time you shampoo your hair. good lluck!

Well, the only thing that will get the old color out is time. You can try and strip it out, but hair color leaves a stain in the hair. It might look faded or washed out after the stripping, but the stain will always remain. Try going to a professional and he/she can do it a lot easier than someone with out the knowledge of stripping hair. Good Luck

White spirits. Only joking!!
I don't think you can wash dye out. Try using temporary in the future. You could just leave it, so that it fades back to the normal colour. However, if this is done then you will often find your hair looking dull, mucky and a bit lifeless.

I went to a Hair salon in Cincinnati and they could not get the black hair dye out. even after they said They Could Do It. The stars do it but it must be their secret...Possibly the movie stars are wearing wigs. right now my hair is brown and (black 10 inches) so good luck!

You will HAVE to see a professional. They'll give your hair a 'bleach wash' first to get rid of the previous colour and then dye it dark blonde.
This is NOT for the amateur! Please don't attempt it yourself - it'll be a disaster!!

it can be done and people do it all the time. you need to go to a salon so that they can strip all the color out. they will basically bleach your whole head, then dye it or do whatever you want. my friend went from black to light brown with highlites. you dont need to wait for it to grow out. people change their hair color like they change their underwear.
