languages, food and tolerance towards people and societies that are different from ours. Traveling is an education. My friends and I are always in awe just thinking we are visiting places we saw in movies or studied about in our history classes.

The culture is probably the most intriguing as you find different culture and how people form their basic personalities, wants, likes, dislikes, devotions and beliefs. If you look a little deeper you will see that even with a difference of culture try to identify the universal attributes that are in all human beings. We are all the same but where we live and what we believe depends on the group of people that we are borned into or have decided to identify with and the interesting part, WHY!

We learn to be better people. We learn the truth behind an "Ugly American", and man do we get UGLY! To learn how lucky we are, and to be inspired to help in any way we can. To become more open and tolerant of other people and their views, their cultures and traditions.

How to solve problems without getting frustrated and angry and how to view what is a real problem. More importantly, you learn to be content with yourself and that you did accomplish what is humanly possible in one day (even if it was just buying the right thing at the supermarket.)

You can learn just how annoying Americans can be. Seek out places where you are the only American and observe the people there.
Then come back to Chicago, NY or LA and be depressed :)

The realization that this really is a small planet and deep down we are all human beings that many of us fear, love, fail and succeed at basically the same things.
The "other side" of history.
Not to mention that we should be polite and mind manners...rudeness is universally hated!
