Alcoholic beverages are broken down and digested in to different parts of the body, the liver and the colon, while soda and water are digested in the colon only. Your body can excrete alcoholic beverages faster which makes it easier to intake faster.

A few assumptions here:
Alcohol is absorbed right in the stomach and small intestine. Excessive drinking would lead to a larger spill into the intestine which I can not think how that would be good for anyone. Stinky alcoholic poo. Alcohol also flows around the bloodstream till it can be processed. Again, not good if it is from binge drinking. The intoxication from the effects of alcohol, the excessive peeing due to the alcohol acting as a diuretic, and the above mentioned places where alcohol can be absorbed and stored might answer why 12 bottles of OJ is different then 12 bottles of beer. Again, not everyone can drink that amount. Try drinking water with your beer. You will drink a little less and feel way better in the morning.

After you finnish the first beer you feel all tipsy ... it is a good feeling, so you want to feel better, and better, and better. And then you are out of beer.
Though I have done the same thing with water and coffee.
You do it because you want to sit down and drink and you have a reason to do so.
I have done it with beeer because of both the first reason and because I just want to get drunk.
Water I do it some times becaues I need to be rehydrated (usualy after a night of drinking lots of beer)
Coffee I will do it because I know that I will get the result of staying awake all night to finnish that paper that I started at the last minute... so i just keep pumping the stimulants in to my system.
It is all about having a perpous.

I think that alcohol is processed in the liver more quickly than other drinks..great question though,, and I don't have a definitive answer. But I would venture to say that it has something to do with the high fructose sugar content of Coca Cola also. Man I'm with the other two, I can't wait to see an answer to this one. But I'm almost certain it will have to do with the difference in sugars, and the fact that it's alcohol.

Because it is in their mind. It is something they want to do. They feel the more intimidated to drink beers than something more healthy not saying that soda is healthier.

everyone is wrong, well one guy is partly right. you drink beer, it makes you feel good. so you drink another. alocohol is a diuretic which causes frequent urination. the combination of the two makes you want to drink more, and allows you to do so/

I've wondered about this, too! I thought it might have to do with carbonation or sugar content, but water has neither. I'd like to see agood answer to this one...
