Tell your parents, how reading the bible is opening a whole new world to you and is opening your eyes to your spiritual self.

I do not think it should be a problem, If I were your parents I would be proud that you are reading the bible and not porn.

We all know that Catholics do not read the same bible as everyone else, if you are reading a protestant bible let them know, so if its the catholic thing, maybe you can teach your parents a thing or two after studying the bible and praying about it.

Did someone tell you it is against the Catholic faith to read the Bible? This simply is not true! Catholics are encouraged to read the Bible. For the first 400 years of its' existance, the Bible was controlled by the Catholic Church & nobody else read it. Once released, people began reading & interpretting the Bible in convenient ways, which sparked several protests against the Catholic Church. Some of these protestors sought the overthrow of the Church....therefore: "Protestants". You may still read the Bible. However, the Church maintains the authority of being the interpretor of its' meaning.
Your parents should be aware of this. If they are of a different pursuasion, ask them to speak to their priest.

Just tell them.

"Mom, Dad, I am reading the Bible every day." If you are following a specific Bible Reading Plan, the Lectionary, or Daily Office, then tell them that. [If you are sticking to the readings of the Daily Office, then congrtulations are in order.]

Assuming your parents are happy, you can ask them to buy you a good Study Bible for Catholics.[Your Parish Priest will be the best person to get advice from, on locally availble Study Bibles that are good.]

If you need a theological justification, then:

Assumptions:

* "Catholic" refers to "Holy Roman Catholic and Apostolic Church;

* "Bible" refers to a volume which contains all of the books deemed to be either protocanonical or deuterocanonical by The Holy Roman Catholic and Apostolic Church, and contains a suitable Imprimatur;

Section 120 of _Catechism of the Catholic Church_ contains a list of protocanonical, and deuterocanonical books.

There is no prohibition on studying scripture. More specifically, Section 133 of _Catechism of the Catholic Church_ states:
The Church "forcefully and specifically exhorts all the Christian faithful...to learn 'the surpassing knowledge of Jesus Christ,' by frequent Reading of the divine Scriptures. 'Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ.' "

The big is issue is whether or not your Bible contains an appropriate Imprimatur. Just because a Bible says "Catholic Edition" or something similar, does not mean it has the appropriate Imprimatur.

If, by "Catholic" you means something other than an adherent of _The Holy Roman Catholic and Apostolic Church_, then the answer, in terms of the doctrine of the Church will be different.

For other groups that get abbreviated as "Catholic"

* Eclesia Gnostica
Gnosis is internal. By study of the Sacred Texts, one learns how to live, in order to obtain that Gnosis.
[The secondary issue is obtaining good translations of all of their sacred texts. ]

* Eclesia Gnostica Catholica
"The Method of Science, The Aim of Religion".
Tell your parents. Suffer the emotional outburst at your choice of religion.
And don't be surprised if you get disinherited by your parents. Let that be your first lesson in learning how to do. [The best you can hope for here, is a scolding for reading, rather than doing.]

* The Holy Roman Catholic and Apostolic Church (Latin Rite)
No issues with studying the Bible, provided it is in one of the following languages: Latin, Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic.

For the rest of this answer, I usually will use the abridged form of the name.

* French Catholic
Independent Bible study is permissible, if one has a suitable instructor, who can correct any errors, or misconceptions you may have. The instructor should be of the clergy.

* German Catholic
Independent Bible Study is permissible, under the guidance of a suitable Instructor, who must be of the clergy.

* Old Catholic
Independent Bible Study is a proscribed activity for the laity. Part of the function of the daily mass, is for the laity to learn what the Bible means.

* Orthodox Christianity.
[I am lumping all branches of Orthodox Christianity into one group here. I know that not all groups that fall under this umbrella share the same belief about Bible study.]

Independent Bible Study is not proscribed for the laity. It is highly discouraged, because material that is confusing, can lead to heretical beliefs by the individual. The study of books about, or by the fathers of the church is encouraged. EG: _The Philokalia_

The point of the Homily is to explain the Lectionary reading. the hope of the Priest is that the laity will take the Lesson to heart, and practice it.

A priest, (and in some instances deacon) may explain specific points to an individual, who requests clarification of a passage.

Assuming you're not talking about the Satanic Bible I would have thought Catholic parents would be glad their kid is reading the Bible, or are they old-fashioned and think that only the priest is good enough to read it?

Read Al Quran as well Please....

The Qur'an says in Surah Nahl, Ch. No. 16, Verse No. 68 and 69… ‘It is the Lord who has taught the bees to build cells, in hills, in trees and human habitations and to eat of what the earth produces, and to find the spacious path of the Lord, with great skill’. What does the Qur'an mean by… ‘Allah (SWT) has taught the bee to find the spacious path of the Lord?’ Fon Frisch, who is a scientist, he got the Noble Prize, in 1973, when he described the behavior of the animals, specially the communication method of the bee. And today we have come to know, that when ever a worker bee finds a new flower or a new garden from where it can take nectar, it goes and tells its fellow bees, the exact direction and map of that new flower or garden - It is called as the ‘bee dance’. Only today, we have come to know by high photographic method - how is this communication given. The gender used in the Holy Qur'an in these Verses of Surah Nahl, Ch. No. 16, Verse 68, and 69 is a female gender ‘Quli’, or ‘Fasluki’ which means a ‘Female bee’. Previously we thought it was the male bee which was the worker bee. No wonder, Shakespeare in his play Henry the IV - he writes that the soldier bee, the male bee goes and reports to the king. Today we have come to know - it is not the king which they report to, It is the queen - and the worker bee is not the Male bee – It is a Female bee. *** 09 Sec
Imagine! Qur'an speaks about the gender of the worker bee 1400 years ago, which we have discovered today.

I thought Catholics read the Bible normally. They should be pleased as punch to know that you are. Ask them about a passage of scripture and see how they respond.
