when there is no G in example

The only reason for this is that "e.g." stands for the latin words "exempli gratia", literally translated as "for the sake of example". It wouldn't make sense if the G were the second letter of such word as "egzample", since that word does not exist, and besides, the dot after each letter shows they're initials of two different words. e.g stands for example... yes there is not G in example but we pronounce is as EGZAMPLE... so we use EG instead of EX!
