Golf is a game and not a sport. It is like billiards or bowling, neither of which are sports. Not saying there isn't skill involved because there is, it just isn't very athletic. It is more like a walk in the park with a purpose.
More proof that this golf is a game and not a sport is that female player from Hawaii, Michelle Wei, I dunno how to spell her name... but she was trying to make history by playing with the men. No offense to women, but there is no way any woman could match up to a man in a real sport.
I don't wanna hear about how sexist I am... it is a simple fact of life that men are superior to women in physical ability and strength, just like women are superior to men when it comes to matters of the heart.

Not as much athletic talent!?!? Have you ever tried to play 18 holes under extreme pressure in 100 degree heat walking a course with 14 inch rough and 7 ft bunkers? Golf is a sport but in a totally different way than most others. In golf it is you and the course. It is a solitary game in which one relies on their ability only. You can't get blocked by a bigger guy or pass to an open team mate. There are no linemen or designated hitters, if you're playing poorly you can't bring in the designated putter. When you play bad there is no coach to blame it on, it is you. On tour there are no contracts making players eligible just because they have potential, these guys have to qualify and struggle to keep there cards or fight for years just to have a position on the Nationwide tour or play somewhere overseas. In golf there are never home games, a professional player never gets the home advantage. Golf requires much more mental preparation than many other sports. I feel like golf transcends "game" or even "sport." Talk to anyone who plays, or who follows the pro tours and realize that it is a passion, an obsession and a way of life.

Its both a sport and a game. Not an opinion, but a fact. Enjoy.
And people are confused as to the question of "athletic ability" and "talent" required for golf.
For a professional - they must play 4 rounds of golf, walking the course - roughly 2 miles a day. The talent comes into the score of golf - those with the lowest score (unless playing in a Stableford format where highest score wins) at the end of the 4 rounds win.
It doesn;t matter that "70 year old rich guys play it), 70 year old rich guys also play basketball, therefore it doesnt negate the fact basketball is a sport. There are varying degrees of a sport, golf is just one of them.

I consider golf a game and a sport because it does take skills and training to be the best golfer out there. And if you can make millions from hitting a little ball into a little hole then it damn well is a sport, but it is a game at heart.

I think golf is definetly a sport and also a game. You use your mind, judgement and perserverance just like you would with any other sport. There is a ton of athletic talent in golf just not physical contact.

Golf is like bowling, people play it as a game but professionals call it a sport. It depends on wether you play it alot and practice for it or just play it occasionally.

Golf is not a rich mans hobby. I golf as much as I can and I am not rich. Maybe thats why. It is as frustrarting as it is rewarding. You can play until you are old. Polo and sailing are rich mans sports. Golf is for everyone. Inner city to the burbs.

It's a sport. It does not require the physical exertion as some other sports may but it does require coordination and skill.
Game or sport - I'll still play.

There is an incredible amount of athletic talent involved. Just because you are not running, kicking, or hitting people, that doesn't mean it is not a sport.
