No, you should send it them out within 4-8 weeks from the date of the wedding. You have until the first anniversary to get a gift.

Usually you should get them out within one month of the wedding date, and never ever hand deliver them, thats very tacky.
Use the same guidelines you used to send out invitations. Once the majority come in, and the trickle of late gifts starts, write the thank yous for those gifts the day you get them. You will sure like having not to worry about getting them done.

No, people have a year to send a gift. You should have your thank you cards out w/in a month of the wedding day/receipt of gift.

Heck no, a year would show a lot of ingratitude!
Try to do it within 6 weeks of when you received the gift. Of course, the best and smartest people will have sent their gifts BEFORE the reception, as etiquette requires they do. So time it on when you got the gift, not the wedding.
And if you can turn the thanks - hand written, of course, not a card - around sooner, even better!
If you've already missed this deadline, better late than never.

I read in a wedding etiquette book, when I helped plan my brother's wedding that it was preferably 4 weeks, but that 4-8 weeks was ok, but in reality just try and get them out as soon as you can.

A year sounds waaayyy too long to me. I say two months after your honeymoon, or three months after the wedding TOPS.

If your youngest child graduates from law school before you even lick the stamp on the first thank you card, you may have waited too long.

Its usually after the honeymoon, and things are settled in the new home. I have never heard of a year afterwards!
