Back in the day, I went to London in this time frame.
Surprisingly mild weather (wasted the taking of PARKAS! LOL), but we hit town in time for THREE MAJOR FESTIVALS!
One was the 800th Lord Mayor's Day Parade (all those lovely Brit carriages out in show, with the footmen and all in full regalia), one was the first time the Queen had allowed the Carney folk to set up a huge FAIR right in the park, and the third--and BEST--was Remembrance Day, with a LOVELY service from Royal Albert Hall on the Saturday night, followed by a FABULOUS parade of all the honored veterans Sunday morning!
PHENOMENAL, watching all those dear old soldiers marching smartly down the street past the Cenotaph (their war memorial) with all their medals flashing in the morning sun. ABSOLUTELY UNFORGETTABLE, and SO great to see the chaps treated SO fine and enjoy SUCH pride in that day!
PLUS, we saw EVERY MEMBER of the royal family, within like a hundred yards! (Always admired the Queen Mum!)
UNBEATABLE! Would recommend it to ANYONE! :D
Best wishes! :)

Well if you don't mind the possibility of it being a bit cool/cold (and not being biased at all because I live in this region) the New England states, especially Massachusetts, USA are absolutely beautiful during the fall. Plus Halloween (there's no place like Salem, MA) and preparing for our Thanksgiving season is great.
But holidays aside, the foliage and the atmosphere cannot be compared to anywhere else.

The Catoctin mountains in Maryland are great. That's near the Camp David area where the president has his retreat. The leaves are beautiful then and there are all sorts of great hikes nearby, crafts fairs, places to get hot apple cider and even a few Maryland wineries. It is rarely crowded in the area and it is a great retreat. There are also similar small town areas all along the Appalachian trail that are great to visit that time of year.

We have a cottage in Hilton Head and love going there during late October and early November. There are fewer people there, fewer kids roaming around, and still lots of things to do. The weather is perfect- mild enough to enjoy the beach, cool enough to have a fire at night.

No doubt. Its Madison Wisconsin, at least if you dont wanna remember half of it. They throw the craziest Halloween parties, its rediculous. But always remember to bring warm clothes, Beer doesnt always keep you warm.
