Why does my dog like to eat butter?

Question

I don't leave butter out that much but when I forget to put it away my dog runs to the counter and starts eating it. My other dog doesn't.
What harm can it do to her? She's a black lab

The reason dogs eat so quickly is because they lack the sense of taste, it is very poor. Dogs are attracted to smell, maybe the dog likes the smell of butter. Ever notice how dogs usually don't try foods? They smell them first and if they don't like the smell, they won't eat what you are giving them. Rarely will a dog smell a food, try it and then spit it out. It's the smell. Butter won't hurt her though.

I don't know why, but years ago when I was a kid, our church was having a potluck dinner. The lady who was supposed to bring the cake couldn't because her dog ate the butter. This is the first time since then that I've heard of a dog eating butter.

One of my cats loves butter. If she hears the butter dish come out of the fridge she comes running to the kitchen, wherever she is in the house. I really don't think a little bit of butter could be that harmful. I let her lick a tiny bit every once in a while and she's happy.

Dogs like different things same as people. However, butter can't be good for her. If you wanna give her extra goodies though, most dogs like peanut butter, and it never hurt my dogs.

Your dog probably just likes they way it tastes. She could get the runs.

dogs will eat anything so i guess maybe thats why she probley also likes the taste of it
