I use to think that too. Alot owners make their dogs mean and hateful. But I have a pitbull now and she is so precious and sweet. We train her to be nice. Don't get me wrong it is in the nature but it is also how you bring them up

I am sorry, but I am one of them. But, I only think the pitbull that I know are mean, and nasty.. I haven't met any nice ones yet,,, so I am sure I can be pursuaed to like them if I ever meet a good one.

I feel ,,that something along the line,,they were bred w/ a "mean streak " in them.

We had a neighbor who had one, and our cat had kittens, and we had to lock them up in the garage. The pitbull,,,chewed at our door to get them out.

One evening we were in the backyard, playing w/ our kids, and kittens on a blanket,,the dog crashed through our fence/gate.and grabbed the kitten out of my sons hads, and "all but ate the kitten" before our eyes!!

Our cat then took them next door, and hid them,,,underneath a garage,, and the dog dug a hole to get under there, and killed them all.

The pitbull wouldnt' stay out of our yard, and would block me from getting outside,, and we had to call the city for help so we could leave.
We took them to court, and they were given chance after chance to keep their dog in their own yard (this dog lived 2 blocks over///) finally the citations became too expensive and they had to get rid of the dog.

I feel that if it will attacks animals..then it may attack a child later with the ficiousness that it had ........

I also knew someone who had a neighbor who had pitbulls and they had been raised as puppies and the whole neighborhood knew the dogs, and they weren't chained but left in the yard,,and oneday the kids were walking past like they always did,, and it got out and attacked the child. The child wasn't looking, or talking or doing anything differently.

I haven't heard any other dogs doing this but pitbulls,, there are several cities that don't allow pitbulls anymore..

Most bites reported are from pitbulls. I don't feel it is because they are left on chains,,because there are tons of dogs left on chains,,,and they don't turn into human eaters.

I am sure you have a "good" pitbull now,,but don't trust them around children!!!!

American Pit Bull Terriers, Rottweilers, German Shepherds, etc are "dominant breed dogs" which means without specific training and persistency with that training they instinctively make themselves the "Alpha" male or female of their pack (family). Dominant breed dogs need persistence, without it they can become dangerous (ie: the alpha dog will attack a member of the pack that gets out of line or refuses to be submissive). Due to the high popularity of the American Pit Bull Terrier throughout the United States, a lot of over-breeding and even in-breeding has been going on. Not only that, but because this particular breed is so popular, it has become a "novelty item" for the dog-owners (ie: "I'm so tough because I have a pitbull..."). When the majority of this particular breed's owners get it because it's a novelty, important things like specific training are ignored. There is no such thing as a bad dog, only bad owners.

because it's the stupid people who train them to be like that that the news and other people follow... they don't look at all the other millions of people who own them (that actually treat them good, like me)...
people out there who have never owned one and are saying that they are mean dogs, are wrong!!! I own one, my best friend owns one and my sister own one and they are all the best dogs that we have owned so far... I would recommend this breed to anyone who is going to take the time and train it like a normal dog!!!
They really get their history from being fought in California and Florida before people really started owning them as pets!
I used to work at an animal clinic and I never came across a pitt bull that was mean or hateful toward people (most of them are dog aggressive if not around other dogs a lot)... i was more afraid of the smaller dogs, they can be mean!!!
But any one who thinks that a pitt bull is mean and they are the worst dogs ever, actually call a vet or a pitt owner and see how they feel about them... i guess people actually have to own one before they can appreciate just how great this breed is...

I've done a LOT of research on this subject because I love pitbulls and would like to get one.

They are BRED to fight with other dogs and to be aggressive. Like Labs are bred to go hunting and grayhounds are bred for racing.

People still need to be careful about pitbulls and not adopt on on impluse. I HIGHLY suggest doing research and meeting some breeders in your area to get to know these wonderful and misunderstood dogs.

I have a rottweiler so I am not easily scared by dogs. But how many times have you read in the paper about rottweilers attacking people, england newspapers anyway, many stories of pitbulls attacking people. I dont like small dogs anyway.

because they r...i never hear about killer poodles or cocker spainiels...can i get a ruff ruff anyone...dogs like pitbulls, rottweilers, bull mastiffs, and part of me even believes dobermans and chows...whew talk about a run-on, sorry...anyhoo, these larger, meaner dogs are primarily meant for one thing only. Protection of ones business property. These dogs are not meant to be around children or family. They make great security for junk yards. Not great security for a home...If anyone wants a good guard dog for their home, invest in a Grand Pyrenees. Great family dog that only barks when trouble is around. They will only attack strangers who mean to do harm to their family or home.I have a thing about little yippy ankle biters too, but thats just mostly annoyance.

Because they are. Pitbulls are viscious dogs and should never be allowed around children. It should be illegal so that any child under the age of 13, should be around pitbulls.

Too many idiotic people have trained them to be. Also, the press highly publicizes dog attacks. Many attacks that are blamed on pit bulls were not really pit bulls. I just spent a long time looking for a webpage. I once went to a web page that had thirty pictures of different dogs and one was a pit bull. You had to decide which dog it was. It took me several tries. If anyone has the link please post it.

IT IS THERE NATURE.THERE JOB IS TO BRING BIG ANIMALS DOWN.IVE KNOWN PITS TO BE LOVED AND TRAINED TO NOT BE MEAN.BUT CERTAIN CERCUMSTANCES COME INTO PLAY AND THEY TURN UGLY.IF A PODDLE TURNS UGLY OR GETS MAD THE OUT COME IS ALITTTLE BITE ON THE ANKLE.BUT A PIT PULLS YOU DOWN AND GOES FOR THE THROAT,THEY DO NOT STOP UNTIL YOU ARE NOT MOVING.THEY LOCK DOWN AND SMOTHER YOU THEY ARE AS STRONG AS US IF NOT STRONGER.SOME GO THROUGH LIFE NEVER TURNING ON A PERSON.BUT IF YOU OWN ONE AND THEY ATTACK A CHILD SCAR OR MAIME YOU HAVE TO LIVE WITH YOURSELF AND YOUR UNDERESTIMATING OF A DANGEROUS WEAPON..YOU HAVE KEPT IN YOUR HOUSE.LIKE A GUN YOU DONT THINK THE KIDS WILL FIND AND PLAY WITH THEN THEY DO AND **** HAPPENS..
