Is it better to rent a dorm and go to college from there or commute from home? The only problem is there are younger siblings that the person wants to be around to set examples for. It won't be easier for the person to do if (s)he only come on the weekends. But the person also wants to have some fun which won't be complete with parents on the watch. So dorm or home? And Why?

I'd say stay home set the example and save money. The life style change can make you or break you. Try it if not move out the second semester.

It sounds like the answer is pretty obvious. If the problem is that this person wants to be around this children on a more regular basis, then this person can't do it from a dorm room. Also, if the home is already being paid for, it certainly makes economic sense to stay at home rather than pay additional $$$ to stay in a dorm.

This answer is only obvious if I have all the information which it sounds like I don't. If there is some reason that this person would not want to stay at home (such as a hateful relationship, home stability or otherwise), then it may be better to go off to college.

Going to college is about YOU. There is no one else there to tell you to do your homework, clean your room, be nice to your friends, mind your professors, etc. It's all up to you. College is about the first steps into adult responsibility. There is no one else responsible but you to get through college.

So at some point, you're really asking if this person should go to college in the first place. You're giving this person responsibilty for helping raise these kids even though this may not be their responsibilty in the first place. There is a major difference between being a sibling and being a parent. Being a sibling means exclusively that this person is not their parent.

Dorm room. Easy access to library, cafeteria, and the other campus facilities. You are more fully participating, though you have to learn how to set your limits and your goals, because you can easily get distracted. Dorm life is fun if you get a great roommate. When you stay at home, you don't get the same sense of independence...either way, enjoy! College is one of the most wonderful times in life.

Going from home could be tiresome if the college is too far away and the person is taking too many classes etc.
So I think the person should live out in the dorm for a year and see for him/herself and then decide which is better.

Home. You are going to college to get an education. Think of it this way. You are in a room full of money. You have a limited time to pick up all the money you can. When the time is up you may leave with only all the money you can carry.

In college you will be picking up knowledge and how to apply it instead of money but this knowledge will be worth money when you graduate.
