Sometimes I'm so embarrassed to be associated with my fellow Americans. This is one of those times.

Haha, no, they aren't trying to hijack the english language... only that their way of spelling is different, not wrong. They are known for their english, it's who they are. It's like the french in France... they spell things differently then the french written in Canada. As well as sign language... you would think that something with your hands would be the same worldwide, but not at all. It's different from one country to another.

Actually, the British spoke the English language and wrote it long before Americans did. The American version of English is not proper English, and is the lazy version. Americans dropped letters from words to save time in writing. If anyone has hijacked the English language, its us Americans, myself included.

In fact, the English written in Britain is the English accepted everywhere in the world except the US! What's that tell you about the US?

You have to admit, they used the English language before it came to the US.

And why do we get so bent out of shape about spelling, anyway (though I admit I've always been a bit pedantic about spelling myself)? Mark Twain said, "I don't give a damn for a man that can only spell a word one way." As long as it's fairly legible, who really cares?
