When it comes to your child, it shouldn't matter how much the item is. I heard people(and I am not putting anyone down) say, "I wont buy my toddler a potty because it's too much, when I can just buy a seat cover." How much more? Like $12? come on now.

My question to u is do u have kids? I have three a 10, 1 1/2 and 8 weeks. I am a stay at home mom my husband is in the Navy. The pay is ok its not bad but its not good either. We live on a budget. If I can save $12 by not buying my child the potty chair and buying a seat cover that is cheaper I will. It not what you buy your children it is how you love and care for them. Do you think that they will know that you didnt spend that extra $12 on the potty? I dont think they care as long as you love them and let them know it. For some of us money doesnt grow on trees. I save money where ever I can so each of my children have what they need that is important and necessary. I think that if you sat down with some one that has kids you will find that each of us save where we can and most of us live on a budget.

You either don't have any kids, or you have a lot of money...one thing may be $12, but all those extra dollars definately add up. Why pay full price for a crib at $300 when I can buy it at a garage sale for $60? When you have kids, and you are on a budget, (like MOST parents) it DOES matter how much things cost. If we bought everything new we wouldn't be able to pay our rent. (we have three) $12 here, and $5 there, it adds up fast.
Do you realize that by the time a baby is 18 years old, a parent has already spent over $1 million on them??? That's quite the investment, don't you think? Try paying rent, car insurance, homeowners incurance, car payments, gas, electric, credit cards, daycare, etc. The list goes on and on.

Depending on how many kids and how much the family income is, sometimes you have no choice but to get whats less costly. I'm 21 with two kids and a stay at home mom. My husband is in the army so the money isn't too bad. I would love to get my kids the best products but I know if I do there's a chance at the end of the month that when I need something important like milk, I won't be able to afford it. Sometimes more expensive doesn't always mean its better.

we all have different opinions on this - some people sacrafice so that they can stay home with their child - stay at home moms usually have less money to spend because they are living on one income. So, often times, those with less money to spend have to figure out what is a priority. The $12 extra to buy a potty vs a seat cover could be some groceries or diapers for that family. They just have to prioritize differently then other people in different situations. Anyway, that is just one perspective, just trying to help you see the other side for some people.

Yeah, but why waste the money if to you its a waste? My kids hated the potty chairs and wierd covers. They wanted to do it like a big kid, not a baby. So after your first kid, you learn things. $12 might not be much, but it does add up. And I'm much rather spend the money on doing something fun for my kids, than unnecessary junk they'll not use. All three of my kids preferred to learn on a big potty with a step stool. I'd rather spend the $12 on a step stool than a potty seat.

I wouldn't say that they are stingy, but children are quite the investment. Lets say you buy a pair of shoes for a 2 year old that cost $100.00. If you never have another child to wear those extremely expensive shoes then you have waisted a heck of a lot of money. I also feel that if you hand everything to them then they will never learn how to earn it themselves. Some people are just extremely frugal.

Some of us are on a budget and when it comes to things like a toilet seat versus a kids potty, we need to save money. When it comes to the big things, like the kids health and education, that's where the money is spent.

It not that their children arn't worth the extra money, maybe they just simply can't afford it...did you think of that? And yes even $12 makes a difference to someone who doesn't have it. Like me...im poor, and it's not that I don't think their not worth it, but I get most everything from garage sales (except cribs and carseats), and that IS LESS COSTLY than buying it brand new.

Not everyone can afford to spend money all over the place. Perhaps they're budgeting in order to provide their child with a better college education, clothes or food. Children are priceless but raising them is a whole different story.
