I don't believe all people originated from Africa. Even so, if they did, the continents were connected at one time. It was called Pangea. There were great earthquakes and the plates seperated and the continents began to move and break apart, until they formed the continents we know today. Some people got caught on their floating continents, and there we go....Hawaii, Eater Island; Greenland; etc.

if you're talking about the origin of man back when humans first became man, then the answer is simple. The entire world was once one chunk of land, and over many many many thousands of years they drifted apart, and our ancestors, whatever they may be, were on different parts of the land, therefore they became different in looks and speech and culture. The other answer is also that people did migrate way before Columbus did, and especially during the ice age, when you could pretty much walk across the world.

Hawaii and Easter Island was populated by people from Asia. That was a trick question.

I think you confused two thinks: 1. there used to be a large continent long long time ago, first people could walk from Africa to Europe (like homo neanthertalis) then to Asia and Australia. Due to seizmological activity (earthquakes) the continent split apart, please check any atlas of the world shoving the position of the continents.
2. after the continents split apart and people started to make boats they of course used the boat, but THAT happened few thousand years later

I love Easter Island. Been there. How did the moai get dragged down to the shores from the quarry? It's a great mystery.

If you can go to Easter Island, you should. It will last you a lifetime.

The earth (land) was not always divided as it is now. With time the land itself changed and moved through natural occurance such as quakes. people were on the land as it was moved. We are talking about many years, EONS, taking place.
And, where there is a will there is a way.

I guess it's believed that certain Polynesian peoples were very adept sailors... to me, it just doesn't make total sense. Ocean-going vessels able to carry people intent on populating a very far-off land, built thousands of years ago. Did they have mastery of astronomy? I would think they'd've had to. I suppose there are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in our philosophy.
