I've driven stick twice and i really enjoyed it. I don't live with a lot of traffic lights either. This would be my first car too. Any opinions?

I have both/neither. I have invented and installed what I call, "Auto-manual" (Or would it be Manomatic?).

Anyway, it started out as an automatic, but the transmission fell out, so I put in a manual. But I didn't put in a clutch or change the gear shift from the old automatic. So now when I want to switch gears while driving, I push the old auto gearshift from drive, passed reverse, into neutral, back through reverse, and finally back into drive again. This will put me up one gear. (Reverse the order to go down gears) If I get above 45, the transmission will kick over into the older automatic mode and just run like a normal automatic transmission does.

Thanks for the free pts.

My first car was a manual. It was fun, and there are many benefits to driving a stick, however i found it took away my focus from driving. I thought I would be a better driver with a stick, and pay attention more...but my mind was focused on switching gears and i having to have one hand on the stick, instead of both on the wheel. When I drove automatics, I could concentrate on my surroundings without other distractions. But hey, I had some serious fun with that old manual car. Good luck with your decision!

Stick, all the way!

When I got my license, my I learned in my moms automatic. However, my dad got me a stick for my first car, so I had to learn to drive that.

I have never gone back!!

It is nice to know that you can drive anything, and you save yourself in a lot of sticky situations (no pun intended) when you know how to drive either. Not to mention, if you are forgetful and forget to turn off your lights or something, you can always pop your clutch to get going, vs. finding a stranger to give you a jump.

Once you learn, it is easy! Good Luck!

Seeing as it is your first car...I would take the manual over automatic. It will cause you to pay more attention to your driving, making you a safer driver. Not to mention, manual is always way more fun than automatic, even in a crappy no power car.

since this is your first car get a stick. but used car with a stick shift have more wear and tear on their engine compared with an auto shift, because the engine is revved often.

if you have a lot of many get something in between like an Audi with the sequential shifting semi auto. it is a manual box with an automated clutch. so you shift like a manual but no clutch is depressed

you have much more control over a standard than an automatic...it is tons safer and since you must pay attention to drive a stick you will be less likely to miss something in front of you.....

Get the Manual - more fun to driver, better control, better built, better gas mileage, less expensive to repair if needed.

if you love the stick,go with it, but if you plan on living in a higher populated area, i would go for a shiftable automatic.
