or do they expect to get privliges without having the proper document?

BTW: I'm not on anybody's side here. I'm just wondering......and also I'm a U.S citizen so it's hard to understand from my point of view.

I'd also appriciate it if I could get answers from immigrants not original citizens born in the U.S. I think I've seen enough of people's opinion in the newspaper and on T.V.

If you read your laws, you'll see the only way to become a US citizen is to marry one. But what if your heart belongs to a non-US citizen When you fall in love, do you have to ask what passport your lover holds?
The other way is to win the lottery, in which case a Green Card is given to people who don't speak English, have never worked in US and their integration in US society is under question.
Of course you can be adopetd if you have no living parents and you are under 18, or get a political asylum if you come from Sudan, Berarus, Ethiopia and a few others...
But the law says nothing about millions on expired visas, who work hard, pay taxes and do no harm.

Its very hard and costly. Illegals don't want to come here solely to break the law for fun. They come here illegally because they don't have the means or resources to come here legally.

My husband is from Mexico city. He is considered 'middle class' over there. We went through all the proper and legal channels to get him residency here and it was very difficult and time consuming, and we have the resources.

We didn't hire an attorney, we did everything ourselves and even with that it was quite expensive. To answer your question, yes it is hard to come here legally and quite expensive. And no, most illegals get no special privileges. They come and work for slave labor. Is that fair? No, fairness doesn't come into this picture. There is not fairness on either side of the issue.

Thats my two cents worth, take it for what its worth.

Mexico and many other countries actually do have some really strict standards for that. Yes with illegal immigration here, they want all of the benefits that they are not legally entitled to, which is stealing.
