Your body is to be the temple of God. Would you put graffiti on a king's palace?

It's not wrong!!! It's all how you percieve it. I believe it is decorating your body, not marking it up! If you paint a beautiful mural on a wall are you marking it up and ruining it? If it is wrong to decorate your body with a tattoo, then by that thinking you should never wear any kind of make-up, never wear any kind of jewelry, never wear any kind of nice clothing.....only rags, etc. because all of these things would be considered decoarating your body or making it look better than it does naturally. I have four tattoos that were profesionally done and look awesome! I'm not saying get any old stupid tattoo that looks bad......but that it is ok.....if you really want one.....and you're 18+ years old......to take your time and think about a design for a tattoo that you could live with on your body for the rest of your life and get it done by a profesional that has a reputation for great work. Remember, it is a decoration on your body that is permenent......so make sure that it is a really great decoration....the best......that you will like forever! And i recommend placing a tattoo someplace that can be covered if needed.....because there are those situations that come up where body decorations, like tattoos, jewelry, etc. are not appropriate......like work....funerals.......etc. So, get them where you can cover it up with clothing if need be. Just my oppinion for what it's worth! :-)

Leviticus 19:28 (NKJV)
You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you: I am the Lord.
Tatooing was a pagan spiritual ritual. It still is for the most part. Africa and South America have their tribal tatooing rituals.
Tatooing has become fashionable and today is is a lot like getting your ears pierced...everyone seems to just do it because the other person did.

LEVITICUS 19:28 says "Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the Lord." This is the verse Christians and Jews alike use against getting tattoos, as it is in the bible and the Torah.
However, this was a command against tattooing your bodies for the dead. When Jesus came, he fulfilled the the old law, rendering it useless to us today. At most, devout followers should day that we should not tattoo ourselves for the dead, but tattoos in and of themselves are not wrong. For those that would say that our bodies are temples, then they should be fit, lean vegetarians that do not smoke, drink, go tanning, put on makeup, or any of the other "worldly" things people do to themselves. They should also remember that Jesus drank wine, consorted with prostitutes and tax collectors, and had a violent temper.

I think Christians oftentimes see tattoos as basically a sign of "rebellion". True, Leviticus teaches us to to not defile our bodies which is the Temple of God. But getting a tattoo is not going to send us to Hell either, since the belief in Christ is the one and only stipulation in where we spend eternity. God knows what is in our hearts. If we get a tattoo because we truly love the look and it means something to us then I don't think he is condemning us. But if we are doing it out of rebellion (just as we might do anything out of rebellion....it doesn't just have to be getting a tattoo...it could be sitting in the last pew at church because we're upset with the pastor!) then I feel that we may be getting the tattoo for the WRONG reason.

as to the person that stated this earlier...
(I am sure that someone is going to or has quoted Leviticus. I ask them this...
So you eat shellfish or pork?
Do you allow the handicapped into your church?
Do you allow post natal women into you church before sacrificing a lamb?
Lets not treat the Bible like a buffet table shall we. If we are going to ignore some of it, lets just ignore it all.)
--------------------------------------------------------
the reason why the jews don't eat pork is because when they were wandering around in the desert for 40 years they couldn't keep pork and they didn't have shelfish becasue they would spoil and make them sick and thants why they don't now is because they didn't read the new testament where it says that that rule is no longer needed. as with the law of moses because jesus sacrificed himself for our sins. you also have to look at the history of why things were put in the bible. as an example: people say the LDS (mormons) people are false jsut because of a part of revalation that says there can be no more added after this. well if you read up on its history you would find that the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd books of john were writen after this was writen. WHY? ill tell you why because the history. he was writing a warning to people putin gmore into his book of revalation saying if anybody added to his book given by revalation from god saying it was him that wrote it then god would punish them.
and by the way your body is a temple.
god didn;t invent these things, we did. all the things in the inks and the stuff used for this has a practical purpose in our everyday lives such as iron and all the pigments used.
emagin if somewn painted a picture. yes its beautiful but where is it. you wouldn't expect something like that to be put on a temple of god would you. well you are a temple of god and you are made in his image not the other way around. he expects you to not defile his image. you defile yourself you defile gods image!
and as for the your bodys will be dust. yeah you will die. but you will et resurected. even the sinners for we are all sinners. and we will get to keep our bodies after the resurection.

I believe there's only one verse in the old testament that says it's wrong and seems more that it is one shouldn't do so for the dead... as, supposedly, they worshipped a living god.
as for putting graffitti on a kings palace... can't say I see it that way. It's more like wearing fancy clothes or jewelry, etc...
Seems rather silly to worry about that, especially since according to the Bible our current bodies are corrupt anyway and will die and turn to dust... so why would the Biblical God care what you do to this body?

As a Christian our body is the temple of God in which the Holy Spirit dwells and we are to be set apart from the world - there is no clear defining of what "set apart" means - but I would think that if it looks like the world, talks like the world, acts like the world, smells like the world, tastes like the world, then it might be more of the world than of Christ? Just something to think about. And if you're really in question about it - I've known several people who got them early in life as servicemen, etc., and later became Christians and either went to great lengths to have them removed or keep them covered, but I personally find that my life before Christ is still important because each sin, not suggesting that if you don't have one to go get one, reminds me of why I gave my life to Jesus and how far he has brought me from what I was to what I am today.

It depends on the religion, but most feel that "the body is a temple" and permanently disfiguring it is not what God would want.
Personally, I have no problem with it, and I think a tasteful religious-based tattoo would be a praise to God. However, I do think excessive tattoos and piercings are gross, but that's just my opinion. I don't understand why anyone's God would have a problem with it.

As a Christian I can tell you it is wrong. It's in the book of Leviticus 19:28.
A lot of Christians will tell you that God told them to do so and it was ok. Your body is a temple and should be respected as such. For God to tell you that it is ok to desecrate yourself in such a way is a lie (1 Cor 6:19-20). It's the same type of lie people do to convince themselves that their personal lifestyles are ok despite living in sin.
God is not going to tell you to do something that's not in his Word. No one gets saved b/c they saw a cross scarred on someone. It's the message they got placed into their heart.

I believe the Bible is just a bunch of stories made up to help us live our lives and follow the right path. They are guiding rules that were meant to help people long ago. But just like all other rules, laws or whatever, some can be overlooked or changed...Tattoos are fine by me, so long as one doesn't go crazy getting them, then I think they are a turnoff...but if you want one, get one:)!
