Do they need wormed every month, should I worry about disease if he kills mice, how often should he go to the vet,he's already had his yearly shots and wormer but I wasn't sure if the wormer was once a year or if he needs other preventions too. Is it normal that his nose has black dirt or build up in it?

Cats are very independent. Make sure that you clean his litter box daily and replace old litter with new litter at least once a week. It is important to have your cat vaccinated once a year and examined by the vet. Also make sure you get the Feline Leukemia and the FIV vaccines when you go. Sometimes they are optional but both of those diseases are deadly to cats. Usually older cats don't have to be wormed. Make sure you notice the poop in the litterbox each day to make sure there are no long worms like noodles (roundworms) or short rice like worms(tapeworms). IF you see this during anytime of year call your vet for some medicine. Also keep Frontline on your new kitty to prevent fleas and ticks...Fleas cause tapeworms. But DO NOT use Hartz brand or any off brand from Walmart on your cat....I have seen cats seizure and even die from these products!!

Call and ask the vet. You should have done research before you got your cat.
