There is always a way to get any dog to listen. Try positive reinforcement training and do a lot of reading. I like Ceaser Milan, The Dog Whisperer. He just released a book and has a TV show on National Geographic. He is great!!!

A dog does not know english, you must teach him. Check out the two links. One is clicker training, a positive style and one is corrective training, a negative style.

if an old dog isn't trained than he probably wont change his ways..but hey..its never to late to teach an old dog new tricks..right? If he just has hearing problems because he is old, there is probably nothing you can do, besides talking to a vet.

Old dogs won't learn to listen. They're too set in their ways

Say what you want him to do then use your hands to make him do the trick. then phrase him and give him treats. do this a number of times until you think hes ready. if he gets it, when you say what you want him to do he will do it for the attention and the treat. You can also use a treat box and shake it when you want his attention. Don't forget to give him a treat.
