Good training should be geared towards your individual dog. There are many good training articles online. flyingdogpress.com is a good one, or it used to be anyways, I haven't been there for a long time, but she is a very gifted trainer. I would beware anyone who says a certain type of training is appropriate for all dogs, it is simply not true.

Treat training can work very well for soft dogs. I have some that would just shut down if I were to give a physical correction.

More traditional training works well for moderate or hard type dogs. Corrections do NOT have to be harsh to be effective, but more of an attention getting pop. Your voice is the best training tool you have!

I WOULD NOT use treat training on a hard dog. Treats will not make you the pack leader! Remember pack leaders DO NOT bribe their pack!

And you do not need to use a clicker to mark behavior, all you need is your voice and good timing.

The first link is all you need to clicker train, a positive style of training that I use, The second link is all you need to learn to train using corrections. A negative style of training that I don't think works as well. They are both excellent sites, what you decide to use really depends on your personality and patience.
