I mean, I understand that bird flu is quite deadly, but WNV isn't a walk in the park (and could mutate into something more deadly). So why aren't scientists freaking out about the WNV becoming the next pandemic? Why is it more likely that the bird flu will be? They're both viruses with the same mutation abilities.

People are more worried about the bird flu because of the high risk of a bunch of people dying...if it were to mutate. Yes, WNV is here but the results aren't nearly as bad as if we were to have a spread of bird flu.
I won't worry about bird flu until they can prove a few people have died from it. And even then, I'm not likely to worry about it.
Choose anything in the world you might worry about. Now you have two choices...do something about it or don't. If you can't do something about it, worrying isn't going help.

West nile was been seen and we know it can kill people but the bird flu we only know that it can be deadly but since we have not seen the mutation, we are not sure of what can realy happen but its been compared to the influensa of 1918 bevause it can kill many many ppl around the world. And the mutation is needed in order to find a cure for it or to at leats prevent it.

The media is really over hyping the possibility of this.
But back in 1918 there was a really deadly flu bug that went around killing rather healthy-type people. So it really is not un-precedented.
