Ooooooh, do this. Its worked great for my wife and I when doing various projects around the house that we didnt wanna blow a load of money on paint.
Go to your local home improvement store, (Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart, etc...) anywhere that sells house paint and buy their "Oops paint". Its basically paint that was mixed for someone but they returned or never picked it up. Sometimes you can get a gallon for as little as 1$, quarts for as little 50 cents. But generally they cost less than half the cost of buying a custom matched color, which for a gallon is about $20, quarts are about $10 or more. You'll have to do some shopping around, but it is totally worth it, and in doing a mural like you are, you'll save a bunch of $$$$$ considering how much paint you will use.

I've never actually done this, but here's a thought: If you painted the mural on with the little bottles of acrylic paint you can get at craft stores, is there a clear sealer or something you could roll on once the mural is finished? All water-washable wall paints are acrylic, so I think the craft paint is basically the same thing.

I love the idea of painting a beach mural on your wall, as for the paint though, it is kind of exspensive, especially with all the different colors, but for walls it is the only thing you can use that will stay permanently on the walls.
Good luck with the mural, and post a pic when you get it done, I would love to see what it looks like. :)

Great Idea!! I've done a lot of murals over the last five years. What I do is buy a glaze and mix it with ordinary craft paint. It will help your paint go on smooth and give it a luxury sheen. Helps cut down on cost and is easy to work with. You can also mix it with ordinary wall paint. I've done this many times in my own children's rooms and it has held up well. You can get the glaze at Lowe's in their paint section.

I've done it with acrylics very inexpensively. If you also buy some Floetrol mix it with the paints, it acts as an extender and gives you more open time. That way, you can get the colors you need and stretch your dollar at the same time. I usually mix 1/3 paint, 1/3 water and 1/3 Floetrol. Experiement with the depth of color you desire as darker colors and deeper tones require more paint to water.
Fun project, good luck!

Ok paint is wayy too expensive for what you want to do.. but think about this. how long you want you beach mural to stay untouchable and quite clean? cuz the problem is that cheep wall as long you stick it with special glue for this kind of paper, when you get tired of it and you will think about remove it, it will cost more to remove... and later you will need to pay more or waste more money on it..
good luck and hope you work good on this...
ps.> show some pic of it :)

It's not going to take much paint to cover just one wall. Why not just get 4 gallons, one each of the primary colors and a white. 4 gallons is a lot of paint, so mixing the colors to your satisfaction will be easy, cause you'll have an idea of just how much of each color you need as you begin each section of the project.

flat latex wall paint will work..if you want more durablity go with satin or semi-gloss....some paint stores have mis -mixed paint they sell for less money..bargains..also think about what colors you can mix to make other colors so you won't have to buy but a few primary colors ....like yellow and green make blue..add white to soften blue.........yellow and orange make red....red and blue make purple.....etc....
